I felt like I needed to say something to the Dragonball section, specifically aimed at the new people. I noticed that there are some people who join, speak their opinion, have their opinion bombarded, and then don't post again or, in some cases, get suspended because they end up being a troll. This isn't for the trolls, but it is for the people who are genuine in their beliefs and want to be part of a good community, which I do believe this forum is. If you speak your mind and are genuine about it, but your opinion isn't the mindset of the majority, don't retreat or become someone you're not just to fit in. Just because your opinion isn't well-liked or well-supported here doesn't mean you as a person are not. You may be the nicest person in the world for all we know, and most people that join and stick around do turn out to be polite and intelligent individuals. For instance, if you believe Pure Boo (Kid Boo to most) is stronger than Evil Boo (Super Boo), don't be afraid to say so. Just because that opinion isn't the majority here doesn't mean you can't have that opinion. As long as you present your case in a well-mannered way with actual evidence, it's all good, and that goes for every debate around here: If you can't back it up, don't assert your belief as fact. That brings me to my next point... Evidence must be used to support your claims. If you come on here saying Broly is the most powerful character in the entire series, you better have a strong case loaded with statements and feats at the ready, or you will be bombarded with people who believe otherwise and who do have a counter-argument ready. I believe this topic is a great start for learning how to debate. Just typing up a short post saying, "Broly is the strongest because he beat four Super Saiyans and a Super Namek" isn't evidence; that's merely your thesis, albeit a very brief one. You need actual statements from characters and feats from the series to build your body and supporting points with. If you don't have any of that, you don't have a case, simple as that. Example of what not to do: Dude A: "Broly is the strongest because he beat four Super Saiyans and a Super Namek which puts him at least at SSj4 Goku's level!!! Try to prove me wrong with actual evidence!" Example of what to do: Dude B: "I believe Broly is stronger than Character X because he beat four Super Saiyans who were, at this point, stronger than Character X, and a Super Namek who wasn't trailing too far behind them. I think that puts him stronger than Character X by default. What do you guys think?" There are a lot of resources out there when it comes to Dragonball, and it may be overwhelming trying to find the "right" one. That's why it's good to gather as many as you can and compare them to see what they all have in common and what they differ on. This is a good strategy, but like a lot of comics and/or literature in general, Dragonball is plagued with rumors, myths, and straight-up lies created by misinformed or disgruntled fans. If you find information, make sure to check the source of the information. A lot of us here will ask for a source if you post something we haven't seen before, or if you're just being a jerk about it. Some sites will have their sources cited, like Daizenshuu EX or Kanzentai, while others won't, like the infamous Dragonball Wikia. If you can't find the source, don't be afraid to ask someone. On that note, I feel the need to address the DBZ community here as a whole (including myself, of course), and say that the needless snide comments are completely unnecessary. If someone posts and says they believe Kid Boo is the strongest Boo, there's absolutely no need or reason to go, "LOL, r u joking u biased tool." That person may just be misinformed. If they continue posting something as incorrect as that even after being provided with the wealth of information we have, then that still isn't reason enough to be rude to them. There's a report button for a reason, and the mods will deal with them. This applies to all debates, including but not limited to: "Krillin vs. Tien", "Broly vs. anybody", "Goku vs. Vegeta", "SSj3 Goku vs. Mystic Gohan", etc. Anyway, most of this is addressed in Necifix's topic here, but I felt the need to remind some of you, since I've been seeing it continued. To get back to my original point, I've seen some forums that outlaw particular topics, or limit them, so to speak. For example, I visited a forum once that had rules such as, "Broly is weaker than Perfect Cell and that's that. It's not debatable. Don't make topics on this or it'll be closed immediately." Fortunately, that's not how this forum runs. You're allowed to have your own thoughts and express them. As long as it's not a no-brainer, like "Oolong vs. SSj4 Gogeta", then it will most likely stay open for debate; very rarely does a topic get closed. On a slightly different table, I've seen topics on other forums closed simply because the staff didn't believe in that opinion, i.e. "The Base Saiyans were not and would never be stronger than Piccolo. To even suggest something so silly is beyond me. Closed." Again, that's not how this forum runs, so don't worry about that kind of stuff. Of course, there are always exceptions, but there is usually a very good reason for said exceptions. Just a small finishing note. When someone opposes your view (because let's face it, there's always someone who does), you don't have to act like it's a personal attack on you. They simply didn't interpret the material the same as you. Remain civil and there won't be a problem. Anyway, that's all I really wanted to say. I know it's pretty much a retread of Neci's topic, but oh well. It's been an itch of mine for a while now. I might have more to add a later date, but for now, it's what I have on the table. Sincerely, KP |
