I am constantly wondering what people think about this topic, for some reason... Basically, I want to address one main question: At what age do you think a person should become sexually active? Is there a specific age that you feel is appropriate, or do you simply believe that you should wait for marriage? This is a very controversial topic that I question every day. Even though I'm a Christian and it basically says in the Bible "don't have sex before marriage," I still wonder if it's entirely wrong. Isn't it human nature? Haven't times changed since then? Who knows. I still don't even know where I stand concerning this. I hope to stay a virgin for as long as possible, though. What do you think?

I think 16 should be the legal limit. Because people are physically ready by then. However I think strong emphasis should be put on encouraging people to only do it when they're mentally ready and when they know they're with the right person. If you want to wait until you're happily married then great. At least it gives you extra time to figure out if he/she is the right person to do it with. I think the best advice is to make sure it's definately what you want. |

I think a lot of kids in my school have had sex as early as middle school. Imo they're rushing it but I guess as long as they're using protection it's ok. Sex is a natural thing but i don't think people should be careless about it. |

I think you should be waiting until after secondary school really because you don't wanna have a kid and be in full time education. Otherwise by age I think the minimum being 18 is best. You're not likely to have enough experience before then to raise kids. You can have kids when you are 13, but you don't know enough about raising them I guess. As for marriage I don't care personally, you can have sex before it in my books but I don't believe marriage is necessary. |

They don't teach you how to raise children in school. The only way to learn is to have one. So no parent has any experience to begin with. Whether they're 13 or 33. You learn as you go. It's amazing how grown up young mother's become in order to look after their child properly. Of course not all parents mature after having a child. That's one of the reasons we have social services. |

I agree Too much emphasis on something 'forbidden' just makes people want to do it more. Sex isn't some bad thing that should be avoided or all hush-hush. But more than that, people should have sex when they feel they're ready. I am a 21 year-old virgin myself. I've waited this long cause I didn't want to regret my first time. I won't get into details about my personal life but.. let's just say that now that I know I'm ready and who I want that it's... happening lol I definitely agree that making sure it's what you want is the most important part. And also proper sex education. None of this abstinence crap :/ |

I never said they teach you how in school. I was talking about in a society like the UK's or USA's you should wait for school to finish so you can concentrate on school more easily. The thing about being 18 was just in general even if school wasn't an issue. By the time you're 18 you've had time to reflect upon your own upbringing, and take a look at the world, and are more likely to have an idea of what to teach your own kids about the world. |

Well if your rich I don't really think it should matter (atleast like 15-16) because you'll pretty much be set for life unless you dun goof and waste your money. If you don't have a job and you're a freshman in High school then you'd be an idiot to have sex. Oh and no I don't think you need marriage. Marriage is kinda stupid, considering you need a license for it. If you two are happy together then you don't need some document saying you are.

I would like to point out that just because you have sex doesn't mean you're signing up to have a baby. That's why we have condoms and birth control pills. Yes, I know they're not 100% effective, but I think in this day and age we can have sex without expecting a baby for the most part |

Sex is natural and fun. When should you have sex? I don't know, but when I was 15 and my neighbor was wearing a thong I thought it was the right time. Great memories. Anyway so this post doesn't get deleted I guess I'll go ahead and say something worth reading. Some countries have the age of "being mature enough to have sex" as young as 14. Canada's used to be that actually. The honest truth is that people mature differently and hormones are controlled better and worse by people depending on a whole bunch of **** I don't want to talk about. Anyway, I think it's ok to have sex if you feel you're ready, I don't like the question, "Am I ready for sex?" Simply because everyone has a different answer.... Let sex come natural, don't try to enforce when/how/if scenerios. |

I remember in freshman year there were like 9 freshmen who were preggo. I was like, "WHAAAA" I'm a virgin, so I guess I have no actual opinion on this particular topic yet. |

it's simple really. any time after the onset of puberty when you feel comfortable doing it. your body knows when it's ready for sex, and YOU know when you're ready for sex, so that should be all there is to it. |

I was first sexually active with a woman at 14. I feel this is actually very acceptable as long as you're responsible..being pregnant before 18 is inexcusable and irresponsible. |

I am 14 but I know quite a few sexually active people. I would say 20 percent of people may age have been sexually active or atleast the ones I know. I knew a guy that had sex at 11. Now that was a bit scary in my opinion, but I think if you are ready to do it then you should just do it. In many countries I myself can have sex, get married, and all the fun stuff. There can't be a magical age limit on this kind of thing in my opinion. |
