Don't most people say he cheated because he skipped SS3. That's the way I look at it anyway.

Nope Vegeta didn't cheat. He's jus better then goku admit it

So can we assume that he had to be at a SSJ3 level to go SSJ4? Considering Goku was and he was following Goku's steps....

Since I'm sort of on a GT kick, I decided I might as well dispel a common rumor about Vegeta and Super Saiyan 4. I see people, most of the time Vegeta haters or Goku fanboys, saying that Vegeta couldn't become Super Saiyan 4 without Bulma's Bruits (Blutz in the English dub) wave emitter because Baby had "tainted" his blood and he was no longer 100% Saiyan. I've never been fond of that claim, and I finally found proof to disprove it. During episode 55 (convenient, eh?), Bulma introduces the concept to Vegeta and they discuss the hows and whys, etc.

Prepare for a really long passage.

Time: Around the 17 minute mark
Vegeta: "What are you doing?"
Bulma: "Here."
*brings up blueprints of the emitter*
Bulma: "It's a Bruits wave generator."
Vegeta: "Bruits wave?"
Bulma: "You're going to go Super Saiyan 4, too!"
Vegeta: "W-what did you say!? I'm going to go Super Saiyan 4!?"
Bulma: "You're a Saiyan, same as him, right? If Son-kun can become one, there's no reason why you can't, Vegeta. Here, take a look at this. When we left Planet Tsufru, I copied over the data from the computer."
*nasty Bulma face pops up*
Vegeta: "That's a dreadful look on your face, huh?"
Bulma: "This isn't it..."
*switches display to Goku's transformation*
Bulma: "Once he got his tail back, Son-kun became a Great Ape due to the Bruits waves that were being emitted from Earth. And then, thanks to Pan-chan's tears, he recovered his rationality, and Son-kun became Super Saiyan 4. Which means... Vegeta, since you're different from Son-kun, in that you don't lose your rationality when you become a Great Ape, it figures that if we give you a large dose of Bruits waves, you should become Super Saiyan 4!"
Vegeta: "But, when I was taken over by Baby, and received a large dose of Bruits waves on Planet Tsufru, turning me into a Great Ape, I did not become Super Saiyan 4."
Bulma: "At the time, Baby's own cells were interfering, which kept you from becoming Super Saiyan 4."
Vegeta: "B-but still, I haven't lost my rationality, even after becoming a Great Ape, since long ago. So then, why wouldn't I have become Super Saiyan 4 before now?"
Bulma: "Perhaps, as Son-kun would put it, it's because you didn't have enough training."
Vegeta: *thinking to self* Does that mean that even back when I was the mightiest Saiyan, I didn't have the ability?
Bulma: "But you'd be able to do it now, Vegeta. I'm sure that you could become Super Saiyan 4. Once we use this Bruits wave emitter, surpassing even Super Saiyan 4 will no longer be a dream."
Vegeta: "Surpass Super Saiyan 4!? Bulma, when will you have it completed?"
Bulma: "Before the earth is destroyed."
Vegeta: "Nice work! Kakarrot, bring on your Super Saiyan 4, or 5, or whatever you want! I'm still not finished!"

I think some people get confused because in the FUNi dub, Vegeta says that Goku could do it because he was 100% Saiyan and he (Vegeta) at the time wasn't because of Baby's influence. The thing to note is that Vegeta says "at the time" specifically. I think for those that are fervent in their belief that Vegeta couldn't ("shouldn't be able to because only Goku is that good" to them) attain the form, they make the inference that Baby permanently polluted Vegeta's blood, even though this is never implied or stated, but nonetheless. Some might have just missed that little line, though.

Anyway, thoughts?

P.S. I also find it a bit funny when they claim Vegeta "cheated" to become Super Saiyan 4, when all he did was take what Goku did and simplify it. It's still the same principle at the core. Goku didn't know the Bruits waves would transform or have an effect on him, whereas Vegeta did, so he harnessed that power. That's the only difference.
