That's actually a well known phenomenon. People have been raped, beaten up, mugged and run over and people choose to ignore it. I think it may be connected with that thing where there's a major disaster occuring all around you but you act as though nothing's happening and go about your day. Happened in the twin towers and it happened on a sinking ferry. I'm sure it happens in many other incidents too. So I wouldn't criticise people too much. It's obviously an instinctive behaviour which dates back a very long way, and was probably useful at some point and maybe still is in certain situations. |

I would actually blame people. Sorry but if I saw a toddler get hit by a vehicle I would do more than walk by like the 18 people did here. |

I believe similar stuff happens over there all the time because women aren't equal over there. It would be the same as finding a dead slave in America 200 years a ago. |

pelador is actually, right. it's an instinctive thing. people have a tendency to ignore what doesn't affect them, especially in traumatic situations. |

list of canon sources: the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga. list of non canon sources: everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality. for those that blindly follow word of god | |

I heard something on a tv show that said in China it's not uncommon for good Samaritans to get ripped off by the people they help. Apparently, they run the argument that the person wouldn't have helped if they weren't involved in the accident, thus blaming them for it and suing them. Pretty sad really and it puts people in a position where they won't help in situations like this in fear of getting blamed. |

Yeah but that overules the fact that people are also sympathetic by nature. We aren't all heartless sociopaths that don't help people. You hear stories about people helping others all the time. It's like if you went to the beach, and a kid was drowning out in the sea, the lifeguard wouldn't just have some instinctive feeling and not do anything, they'd know to go and help. And yeah, it is their job, but they know what they're meant to do. People also know what they're meant to do when those things happen because your parents socialize you, the difference is, what makes you a decent person depends on what your parents taught you to do. If your parents taught you to help people when they need it, then you'd know thats what to do. If your parents told you not to bother, or just didnt tell you what to do, then you're gonna be one of these people that doesn't care, just stands around and does nothing. Even if you arent meant to be directly involved for medical and legal reasons, somebody could have at least phoned the police or an ambulance for that girl. Since this is China I can only assume that the gender issue there is a factor in why the girl wasn't helped, but also the people may have strong action taken against her perhaps if they did help her. It depends, China is not known for it's human rights and there are laws about having children which means hundreds of young girls are left out on the streets and put to death. These people must have thought that she was beneath them and didn't need or deserve their help or something, and that's disgraceful. |

I'm not gonna watch the video the discriptiton was enough. Really disgusting that they couldn't go out of their way to help a helpless child. Had they been the one to gotten hit I'm sure they'd want help from pedestrians walking by too. |

I think its crap. I would definetly attempt to help and I would hope most people would. Most of the people I know would at least I think. Guess you never know till you are in that situation but I know I would try to help. |

Pretty much. Using human nature to prove some sort of absolute behavior doesn't work too well because behavior is determined by upbringing. Just because people are raised similarly doesn't mean certain behaviors are innate within the the human mind. In fact the only innate behaviors are eating/drinking, sleep and sex... which isn't exactly exclusive to humans. It's neither human nature to ignore a situation or help out (what Viddy Veechi said), it's about how people have been conditioned to respond to certain stimulus.
