Are there too many limits on sports these days?

I notice that many sports are starting to have some limits. Years ago you either were playing or not but now it is mixing up alot of things like this.

6th grade team doesn't suit up vs the 7th grade team, the Freshman vs the Varsity, and so on. Like boxing there is Featherweight, lightweight, middleweight, light heavy, and heavy weight. Well there are more than that but I am not going to list them all. It has became very easy to win things in some areas. Some do agree while others don't. Some even say that we are holding the good back and we are letting the bad win. Some even say that we are too soft and giving ribbions to all kids for being bad or average isn't going to make them try. Now I do not have an opinion on this at all. I am just asking what do you think.

I agree with some of the limits. The differences in weight classes are to protect the fighters. Sure the smaller guy might win once in awhile but for the most part the heavier stronger fighter will win.

weight classes in combat sports are a necessary limit. the big guy with a longer reach, and an extra inch of muscle padding his frame, has an automatic advantage against a smaller opponent, who has to get closer, can't hit as hard, and can't absorb a hit as well. since combat sports are supposed to be about skill, to have a fair fight you have to put people with similar physical abilities against each other, and weight is the easiest way to do that.

as for awards for everyone, that's just stupid.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god

There are way to many limits in hockey, concerning hockey fights. Back in the 90's they would allow players to fight, and more enforcers would join a team. Since the lockout, they have limited the amount of hockey fights, by enforcing an instigator rule; meaning the player who starts the fight gets an additional penalty. Since then there has been a decrease in hockey fights, less enforcers on each team, and more star players are getting hurt and there are more dirty hits, such as shots to the head which has become a big problem.

If a welterweight fought a middleweight he'd get knocked around. Look, here's the difference between the two.

There welterweights. Now, here's a middleweight.

And there are two middleweights.

Weight classes are absolutely necessary.
