While not exactly recent, this discovery is fairly unheard of in the western world. Most people who have studied the Bible know that Moses recieved the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai. Since then, the location of the mountain had been lost, and many researchers have searched for it. It has been discovered that a certain mountain called Jabal Al Lawz in Saudi Arabia is Mount Sinai. In fact, that discovery, as is this next discovery I shall reveal, has led this area to be barred to all westerners and non muslims. The last western team to enter the area was in the 1970s, and they were immediately arrested. What is more interesting than the mountain itself, is that 1 mile from the base of the mountain, a skeleton has been found. The skeleton of a Sea Creature that is 1900 feet long. That makes it over 5 football fields long, and over 19x longer than the blue whale, the largest animal living today. Most researchers believe this is the skeleton of the Mythical Creature the Leviathan, shown by God in the Book of Job. Here is a small youtube video. Now, you can say it isn't the Leviathan. You can claim it to be an alien, or an unknown creature of natural means, but there IS a skeleton of a creature larger than any ever discovered, and this skeleton is at the base of what archeologists believe to be the Mountain of God. Interesting find Poohead. Though I don't think anything should be claimed yet until further information is found out. But so far it is interesting thing to find out about. Does it tell of it's age? |

Not that I recall. Its considered pretty top secret to the Saudi Arabian's, so there are not many sources of it to find. I actually learned this from an archeologist at my college, and he said that its hard to find out more info on it without actually being apart of the research teams in Saudi Arabia. |

That's a shame. If others were allowed in we might find out a little more or if at anything find out what it is. Are Saudi's planning on releasing any information outside of what we know now? Or is it too much of religous sanctuary. |

I think its the latter, but next time I have the class, I'll ask more on the subject. I just had to share it. Most threads in deep discussion are against ideas of religion. I thought one FOR the subject would be nice for a change. Edited by POOHEAD189, Sep 26 2011, 10:10 PM.

I think that's very interesting actually and wish they'd let people study it closer. Especially as if they're right it's a holy area for a large amount of the religious population of the world. |

The Leviathan has always been an interesting subject. I researched it a while back actually. The thing that stands out to me in this though is that the bible is recorded saying that the Leviathan had more than one head. "It was you who crushed the heads of Leviathan and gave him as food to the creatures of the desert." -Psalms 74:14 I watched the video and saw no mention of that? It could easily be a mistranslation by the bible or me though. Here is what I want to know, according to the bible was there only one of these sea creatures, or were they everywhere? The bible says God killed the leviathan, so it would be interesting to know seeing as how I can't find enough info about it right now. |

Religious artefact or not these fossils offer an amazing insight into creatures once living on this planet. Leviathans (used in the loose sense of "a massive marine animal") are entirely possible because we have not and are likely to never be able to understand the deep ocean organisms as they are today, let alone find the fossil records sufficient to tell us what they were like millions of years ago. These finds thrill me; they're far too large to be a hoax, and the only problem I see is the protection - authenticity as promoted by a religious body that would love for people to believe it's authentic isn't assuring at all. I want independant sources. @Cal - "Leviathan" is both singular and plural, or I have come to believe it is. It might be that the Leviathan of the Old Testament were meant as multiple of the same creature. Edited by Sousen Ichimonji, Sep 27 2011, 12:38 PM.

What I wonder though is... If this skeleton is so large, why wasn't it found earlier O_O? |

I'm not saying that this isn't a fossil/skeleton, but how can we be sure that this is a giant skeleton? It could be an oddly formed rock. This may sound stupid, and I'm not just saying this for the sake of it, I'm genuinely curious. |

Sorry to be a fun-crusher, but this is no more a leviathan than the 'face' on Mars is a sculpture. When there isn't enough visual detail available our brain generates its own interpretation through geometrical associations. Just look at a few clouds - same effect. I guarantee you will not see anything special watching this footage while unaware it's supposed to be showing a fossil. Also, don't you think this would be a massive discovery if it were undeniably true? There would be an excited uproar from research institutions all over the world. Wow it is very big! Darn I can't believe they found. It is a very good find and even if it has to do with religion or not it is still a great find imo. |

WoW, so amazing this creature is. I wonder if they will clone it... Anyway, those Arabians. I wonder why do they want to keep it a secret. Perhaps they were the ones who started the rumors, just to get attention and keep it a secret from everyone so that they reel in as much profit out of it as possible... |
