Women in the southern Philippines brought peace to their strife-torn village by threatening to withhold sex if their men kept fighting, the UN refugee agency reported Friday.

The "sex strike" in rural Dado village on the often lawless southern island of Mindanao in July helped end tensions and bring some prosperity to the 102 families living there, said UNHCR national officer Rico Salcedo.

"The area is in a town which is subject to conflict, family feuds, land disputes. The idea came personally from the women," Salcedo told AFP.

The idea was conceived by a group of women who had set up a sewing business but found that they could not deliver their products because the village road was closed by the threat of violence, Salcedo said.

Sporadic shooting incidents between men in the village had occurred especially near the road, the UNHCR said.
"There had been a string of clan conflicts. You would have a number of men who would go against another family. There were scattered incidents of shooting at each other," said UNHCR staffer Tom Temprosa.

Maybe that would work in an isolated incident, but I don't think that could solve world peace, even with the sex drive of guys. I think there would just be more r8pes. (wont let me say the word O_o)

No, but it'll make the world a better place in developing countries

Wouldn't ever work. Developing countries have r apes a lot more frequently than developed ones. Lack of things to do, lack of effective police services and whatnot means that r ape happens on a widescale and rarely any justice is served whatsoever. Even when there is an effective policing service, r ape still occurs and it still counts as sexual intercourse, so a sex strike is never ever going to work.

It would, if you were naive enough to believe that people in this life are all nice enough to respect that boundary, but unfortunately they are.

Edit - This censor is a pain in the butt. I can't write about it in context if we can't type the word = 3=

I laughed when i saw this. Last semester i read a play called Lysistrata, where the women withhold sex from their husbands until a peace treaty is signed. We had some "what if" discussions in class about if they really happened but wow, I didn't think it would happen so soon.
