@ fuel. the technology to switch to a hydrogen/electric infrastructure is already developed, the big companies are just waiting until the last minute to release it so they can make more money from it. |

Urgh, the downfall is imminent. People want to live in the moment and forget about the looming crash of the U.S. Sure, the Great Depression was VERY bad, but nowadays, we've made ourselves TOO dependant on non-renewable sources of energy and such. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if something major happened in the next 10-15 years. |

Sometimes it takes a tragedy to make a country understand how to get back on the right track. Some European nations have experienced similar things with currency, and war. And some of those countries are doing great now because of their learning from mistakes. Germany for instance is #2 in trade. I just hope it doesn't take a Hitler figure, and a world war to reshape the nation. |

I agree with Poo and Teen. I'll start worrying when I need to start worrying. I'm not going to get myself worked up over something that ends up being okay in the end. The Great Depression was a lot worse. I guess I can begin to worry when things start getting that bad. Worrying is only going to make things worse. It's THAT kind of attitude that isn't helping, thank you very much.

Well not caring that we are running out of out of fresh water is something that needs to be addressed now. Waiting until we run out then worrying about it is not the answer. Think we have infinite resources is not the best choice. We need to think of a way to cleanse salt and polluted water on a large scale. Our economy is getting bad too. Look at our trade deficit, instead of fixing it we just keep adding credit to the global balance thinking it'll be ok. |

really? it's people NOT worrying about what's going on that allowed: 1. katrina. not only were they years behind schedule on building new levies, but the ones they had weren't maintained. if someone had worried about the levies their lives depended on, instead of trusting the governor that was stealing the levy money for other projects, then that category 2 (read: relatively minor) hurricane wouldn't have been the most devastating natural disaster this nation ever faced up to that point. if people had worried about the environment instead of allowing the oil companies to drain the wetlands, then new orleans would have been 3 feet above sea level, instead of 9 feet under, and it would have been over 100 miles farther from the coast. a little WORRY would have saved hundreds of lives, billions of dollars, and one of the most historic cities in the nation. 2. 9/11 do you know what the saddest part of this tragedy was? it was entirely preventable. the U.S. intelligence agencies had MORE THAN enough evidence to predict the attack weeks before it happened, but because they weren't WORRIED about the unlikely scenario of a coordinated attack on that scale, they allowed it to happen. a little WORRY on the part of the people that get PAID TO WORRY would have saved 3,000 lives, billions of dollars, and our national peace of mind. 3. the latest depression. do you know what caused the depression we're just now recovering from? wanna guess? if you guessed: not worrying enough, you are correct. the depression was caused by the crash of the housing market, which in turn was caused by 2 main factors. 1. construction companies built too many houses, more than they could realistically sell, because they didn't worry about being overstocked in a market where prices, and therefore profits, just kept going up. 2. banks and credit agencies tried to cash in on the housing boom by pushing adjustable rate mortgages to people that couldn't afford regular mortgages. they didn't worry about even radical loans such as N.IN.J.A. (no income, job or assets) loans. and of course, people without a bunch of extra cash were lured in by the low monthly payments of the A.R.M.s, not worrying about the fact that if/when the interest rates went up, they wouldn't be able to pay the monthly bill. when the ninja loans defaulted, the banks were forced to raise interest rates on the other loans, forcing more people to default because they were barely able to make the payments as they were, which in turn forced interest rates even higher, etc. etc. our entire financial system crashed because banks didn't WORRY about what people could actually pay, and consumers didn't WORRY about what the banks would actually charge. on top of that, when the credit crisis hit, the construction companies were stuck with thousands of houses they couldn't sell, because they didn't WORRY about the shaky credit industry their business was based on. if the companies and consumers had just WORRIED little, trillions of dollars would be saved, and americans wouldn't look like a bunch of broke idiots that don't know that you're supposed to WORRY BEFORE THINGS GET BAD, because when they do get bad, worrying won't help nearly as much as if you stopped it from getting bad in the first place. |

Pretty much this^^^ Not worrying in every situation is a terrible mind set to be in. It ends up biting you in the end. |

I don't think you understand my viewpoint. Sure, the government should be more than worried and try to prevent this. But us citizens (especially kids like me) shouldn't go into a frenzy and freak out about it. It will only make things worse and make everyone even more terrified. lol. I know all of that already. I'm not dumb. :P |

Well our government isn't doing there job and us citizens need to harass them and get them to understand we want something done. It's not like there doing anything better.

True! There's nothing we can do about the situation directly, but we can do our best by voting for a better president. Obama has really done us in... |

Well they are just wasting time and money on the war on drugs. And I feel that while finding a cure for cancer/HIV/aids is important, I feel that there are more important things to do, like cleaning water, fixing the economy, and a few other things. |

Nobody's saying you should freak out. They're saying that not everything is as it seems, and maybe your perfect little bubbly world is in danger. And yes, you should be concerned. |

Yes, of course I should be concerned, but I'm not the one freaking out about the nation ending in a few years. All I'm saying is that there isn't enough solid evidence to say that America is going to end in a few years and get everyone hyped up about it. -_- Sure, the economy is crap, but we've been through worse before and America is still standing. I don't think that we would let it get so bad that everything falls apart. |
