We all know on the Orange Bricked set it was the first time we got to hear the first 60 some episodes of DBZ with the Funimation voices finally, after watching it up until I think 61 you can tell it goes right back to the old dub that they did back in 1998 I think when it was aimed at kids you can tell by the cheesy dialogue, I complelty forgot how cheesy it is compared to watching the first 60 with the newer dub and from watching Dragonball as well. Lines like goku saying to Vegeta "You dirty dog" and Gohan talking about Frieza on his way to Guru "Hes like an old grandfather why would anyone want to hurt him!" are just plain cheesy and so painful to hear. My question is why didnt Sean go back and re-dub Goku in these episodes? From listening you I can tell that some of Krillin, Gohan and most of Vegeta was all re-done but Goku sounds left the same, I just cant believe they would actually keep so many bad lines from Goku in there still another one was "This fight is fruitless" to Burter and Jeice. Why didnt Sean go and re-dub some lines while nearly everyone else did? Its strange especially since Goku is the main hero you would think Sean would of re-dubed all his parts... His voice I find sounds so different than later when he got better that it just sounds so off and sort of ruins it, I have only watched 7 episodes since the switch to the old dub, does anyone know when everyones voice starts sounding better and if the use of cheesy lines start to go away? |

Uh... They redubbed the whole thing, so I don't know what you're talking about. Sure, some of the "cheesy" dialogue is still there, but pretty much all of the Funimation dub is cheesy to some extent. Goku isn't the only one to spout horrible lines. If you want to complain about it, then check out DBZ Kai or the original Japanese version. |

Those lines were epic man. The 'this fight is fruitless" was a real winner if you ask me. They probably thought the same so they kept it. |

They didnt redub the whole thing, when was the last time you watched DBZ? watch the episode right after Goku arrives on Namek and Recoome flips him off, after that it goes back to the old dub you can tell by the way Sean's voice is its clearly the old dub it was like this for the Orange Bricked set and the Dragonbox, Im not complaining about it Im asking a question if they went back to re-dub some of the lines and most of Vegeta and other characters were re-dubbed why was Goku one of the only ones completly left unchanged even though his voice sounds clearly worse and inexperienced because it was one of the first times Funimation ever dubbed something. Yeah the fruitless thing is cool but just the way he said it was so cheesy mostly because you can tell hes not as experienced as he is now |

Sorry, but you're mistaken. I own the DVD sets and it does not randomly switch to the Ocean Dub. =P |

I think Sean was busy with something else. Sean's 1999 Goku sounds really bad too. I remember hearing Sean was losing interest and almost gave up on doing the character till he read the Kai script. Can't find the interview that confirmed that. It was a while back. Edited by Ani-Nation, Aug 27 2011, 06:03 AM.

I see, this episode where it switches back to the old dub is that the 1999 dub? I thought it was earlier hmm, So do you or anyone know if Gokus voice just stays the same all the way up to the Buu saga as the old dub or was there some re-dubs? and if not do you know when around does Gokus old dub get somewhat better or if it gets better at all? Becuase these 7 episodes I watched his voice sounds so bad it almost sounds like he could be another character lol Yeah I remember reading about how Sean was getting tired of going back re-doing things I think I watched it on a video clip on a PS2 dbz game I cant really remember |

No re dubs for Goku just a few things added in Season 9.
His voice gets better over time and becomes decent during the Buu Saga. He still sounds constipated in his fight with Pikkon. Edited by Ani-Nation, Aug 27 2011, 06:32 AM.

Goku's always had a decent voice. Gohan's voice from Kai is the one that really bothers me. |

Lmao yes soooo bad "OOHHHH NOOO" ah whatever I guess its pretty entertaining sometimes to hear the cheesy lines, although a redub would of been nice for the original show, Its sort of cool to see how he evolved as well. And DAMMMMMN are those clips from the Orange Bricked set!? IF SO I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW BAD IT LOOKS, when I watched them before I found out about the Dragonbox's I thought they were fine but thats because I probably got used to it but now looking at that it looks like complete utter *hit its SO bright my god its so hard on the eyes how can people like that version more than the Dragonbox is unbelievable, but I guess its not like they know just how I didnt when I watched the orange bricked set, once you see the light it becomes clear which is the better version |

Faulconer's music should have been kept for fans though. It was a major loss for fans like me. |

The Dragon Box was intended for hardcore fans of the original. Thats why Japanese is the default audio track.
Yup |

Oh yeah I totally agree that it would of been a great feature to add that extra 3rd track to the Dragonbox's. But buying the Orange bricked set with the tops and bottoms chopped and the picture looking like that just for the Bruce music? lol no way... |
