I think by keeping it illegal, everybody wins. People who posses it don't have to pay any tax on it, the government can look upstanding by refusing to legalise something with a lot of stigma to it and it gives the drug squads plenty to do when they raid people's stashes. Everyone's a winner. Well maybe not the people who find themselves drawn to stronger and stronger substances or find they have an illness related to the drug but everyone else is a winner. Oh I forgot about people who dislike the drug who don't want it blown in their faces in the street. They win too.

So you would rather spend tax payer dollars sending in paying cops to go around arresting people for something doesn't affect other people? Then spend more money on paying to put them in jail for 5-15 so years? Why not just legalize it, then just make no public exposure to it like Cigarettes so people in public dont have to put up with it. Most people do it at home to relax unlike tobacco smokers who are addicted and have to smoke every couple hours unless they want nausea and vomiting.

I agree with this post so much. That's pretty much how I see it. Why are we spending tons of tax money on putting away stoners? The feds narc so much on potheads, when it's the methheads and people on REAL drugs that are detrimental to society. I don't get it. A cigarette makes you addicted and gives you no positive effects. The amount of money that could be made from taxing cannabis is enormous. There are over 100 uses for the plant, such as paper and hemp clothing. It's cheap to grow, and there is a lot of it. Taxing the smoke-able marijuana would be huge money alone, and then the government could make tons more on the other products the plant makes.

Yeah that's just it they can't tax it all because some people will just grow it and they wouldnt be able to collect "there money". They could still have farmers grow it like a crop and use it to make items like paper. I think they could even make toilet paper and paper towels saving millions of trees.
