J a p shouldnt be a bad word, its retarded dont people understand that J a p is just short form of Japanese, just like English is Eng, and when you say any other long word that you can shorten it down... I know it was used as a bad term a long time ago but seriously were not using it as a bad term were using it as short form just as you use ENG for short its ridiculous
I never use the word "Eng." lol. And yes, it is a bad word, considering that people use it similarly to the way they would use "retarded" or the n-word. The n-word is still considered derogatory even though it was used a long time ago, and so is the short form of Japanese.

But we're way off topic, sooo.... ^_^
No point in saying "N-word" we all know what your trying to say, just say it. Its actually worse if your avioding saying it, and using a substitute to put it in people's minds what you really meant. Honestly, the "n-word" is just a made up word, like "Caucasian".. i could elaborate but yeah really off topic..

Okay, since I just came into this, and I've read that's things have gone off topic, I'll be the stereotypical new-poster-in-the-thread and just state my opinion, disregarding all previous posts.

I like the ocean dubs and music for the saiyan and namek sagas (I wasn't aware that they even went past those, but Steve's video that he posted shows that they did.) After that, I like the FUNI. I really can't get used to Japanese voices after hearing the American.

Plus, ladies and and gentleman, compare Ocean's I'M JEICE! to FUNI's I'm Jeice

has anyone ever stopped to think that maybe Trunks just bought his sword somewhere or something? There's nothing really special about it.

Well it did manage to slice Frieza into a shishkebab so it must've been packing more power than your average blade. Hell even Zelda's sword couldn't pull off that ****.

I don't believe in power levels after the Frieza Saga. :D
Now, there's an idea.

I didn't know that they went past the Namek saga either until someone posted it. It's cool to see that the Ocean dub still has some fans. I wasn't into DBZ back when that dub first aired, so that's probably why I never liked it.

And yeah, that's how I felt about the Japanese voices at first. But the more I listen to them, the more I get used to it.

So Lonely

lol what does the n word have to do with Funimation? XD

Kai's "I'm jeice" lacked the epic voice big time.

Ocean and Funi are my faves.

Plus the original "Vegeta. What does the scouter say about his power level?" "it's over 9000!!!" is Ocean.

To me the Japanese voices seem more natural, it also doesn't help that when I watch a series or movie, I'd rather watch it in the original version possible even if the subs may be a bit off. I feel as though the Japanese voices are more the character than the English adaptations of them, again because it feels more natural to me.

As for the English versions... I can't say I like either of them. I'm not a fan of English VA over anime to begin with and have only a few exceptions when it comes to it (Hellsing, Vampire Hunter D, Utena, Cowboy Bebop to name some) and DBZ had some of the worst English VA during its run. Both Funi and Ocean have their pro's and con's as far as which voice should have stayed with which character for instance Goku's voice in Funi is better than the Ocean one and I like the Ocean dub of kid Gohan better than the Funi's voice of kid Gohan.

When it comes down to it, its all a matter of preference and which one feels more natural to the viewer. I'd also like to argue that I personally like the Japanese tracks better than the English one (Rock the Dragon? Really?) for a lot of reasons, one being that a lot of my favorite Dragon Ball Z songs are in the Japanese version only (Mind Power Ki when Trunks is talking about how devastating the future is in the air ship)

Some of the ocean dub music wasn't half bad. I just don't like this rockish type thing that Funimation was going for. I think that Kai handled the "I'm Jeice" thing pretty well. It gives you the impression that you can't take them seriously until the beat the out of you. And to be quite frank, I'm starting to hate the word epic, it is being said SOOO much. Oh and In response to Hamel, I really like Detekoi Tobikkiri Zenkai Pawa and welcome to the site.

The Funimation Kai dub is vastly superior to every other dub in general.
In my opinion the only version that is better is the original Japanese. I think that the Japanese Kai has worse voices just because the cast is really ageing.

Yeah people say the Japanese Kai version isn't as good. Still its nice to hear the Japanese version in stereo instead of mono.

Imo

Original Japanese > Kai English

Definitely true. But since I started with kai in both english and japanese, it's sometimes weird to watch the original japanese (not in a bad way). I keep saying Vegeta and goku sound so young. I'm thinking now that i should have added funi kai and japanese kai to the poll.

Yeah I second that.

Original Japanese>Kai English>Kai Japanese imo.

I love the Yamamoto score but it doesn't make up for the drop in quality in the Japanese Kai voices.
