12: From time to time, il would happen that people whom I didn’t even know were approaching me about the anime. Things were often said like: “Oh jeeze, between the manga and the anime, you must never take any time to let yourself breathe!". In reality, I had hardly worked at all on the anime, I had put confidence in my collaborators. I had enough to do just with the manga. I didn’t want to work myself to death, you know...

Toriyama: I want to live until I’m 100 years old!

13: For example, drawing an image of a movement in a manga is relatively simple, but to animate this image, you had to decompose the movement and draw all the intermediary movements. That demands a colossal amount of work. (Ok, the example of Kame-sennin might not be the most appropriate...)

14: Of course, those who have read Dragon Ball have noticed that certain stories which are found in the anime didn’t existe in the manga.

Oolong: What’s this? I never saw that in the manga....

ENstraight As one adventure in the manga corresponds to about 10 minutes of animation, and since one episode comprises on average 30 minutes, the entire series of Dragon Ball would have passed by very quickly. The team of animators therefore had to insert some original stories. I admire what they have done, that’s a hell of a job!

Toriyama: Dragon Ball, it’s the anime and the manga

I didn't find that very interesting to be honest, nothing new.
Also an entire episode of DBZ is on average 19-20 minutes long.

So going from this interview, when people say "Well, Toriyama had input on the filler and he wouldn't have said yes if it wasn't okay with him," the beginning 12 part completely shuts that argument down. Toriyama says himself he put faith in the staff and wasn't involved very much, so...yeah. Now whenever someone tries to bring that ridiculous argument up to justify some of the stupid filler (like the humans on Kaio's planet, Pikkon, etc.), I can bring this up. The whole article seems to be addressing filler, which seems a bit odd to me, since most of his interviews address numerous points of the series...

That brings me to the real point of my post. Is this interview legit? It doesn't look like any interview I've seen from him, which is usually in magazines like Weekly Jump or the guidebooks. I'd like a source for this, please.

Does that mean all the stuff like Yamcha being a baseball payer, Humans vs Ginyu Force weren't made by him? I've never really known whether to count that kind of stuff as filler since I hear Toriyama had a hand in them

I heard he use to leave rough outline for stories like posted stamps with bullet points for fillers and leave it on the animation staff fridge. If you even check dbz wikia and diazenshou forum they said yamcha doing baseball was one of Toriyama idea.

Yamcha as a baseball player was one of Toriyama's ideas, yeah, but it's not like that validates everything else. Like he said in this interview, he wasn't much involved with the anime. There's a thread on Daizex that explains all of his contributions to the anime.

Care to link it?
I was more interested in if the Humans vs Ginyu Force was pseudo-canon
