The word sparring should explain it by itself XD As for the guidebook...well do you follow everything a guidebook says? Hypothetical question of course, I already know you don't

That would undermine the entire purpose of sparring, which is to get stronger/better. Both of them looked like they were getting a good workout, and I don't think just because they weren't trying to kill each other means they weren't trying hard.

The less they try the longer they can go without losing breath, thus get more training? I just think it'd be too easy to injure each other if they were both the same power and using everything they had. I'm sure many characters have held back for weaker people in the past, such as Piccolo for Gohan. I also think that if he was THAT strong he would knock 18 out in 1 punch as a SSj, even not at full power. I know "It would rip the costume" but I don't believe that, not only did neither of them say anything about that but if it was going to happen it would have happened already... I think so anyway.

	list of canon sources: the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga. list of non canon sources: everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality. for those that blindly follow word of god

Ignoring what's shown in the manga and underrating a character is what I consider a hater,especially when they keep ignoring and can't deal with the truth. But they didn't say anything about the costume ripping off if they threw a punch too hard, the fact they'd been fighting millions above the regular human speed that the suit was made for and still didn't come off kinda makes me feel like it's not going to come off at all just by punching in it. They immediately went to ki blasts, so we can't know for certain that they wouldn't have encountered problems actually fighting as Super Saiyans. I think the fact that Trunks immediately went to ki blasts kind of suggests that they still couldn't win as Super Saiyans in the costume, either because it would rip or because it still restricted their movement, which is kind of the same thing but whatever, you get my point.
