I actually tried IE5 a couple days ago to see if something wasn't working with just Chrome and Firefox, but it turns out just wasn't working in general. It was a much better experience than I had with previous versions of IE.

IE9 is out now ;) Apparently it's actually a half-decent browser so if you have to use IE at least use the most recent version :p

Firefox is going downhill a bit, too many updates and not enough time to allow plugin writers to keep up. They're trying to compete with Chrome which is this case in a horrible idea.

Anyway, IQ and browser shouldn't be linked at all. People use different browsers for different reasons.

im glad this was cleared up before i had to jump in. I find it personally offensive calvin that you would even put up a subject like this, did you honestly think you were justified in calling people dumb because of their browser usage? its obvious on the profile who uses it and who doesnt, i hear you guys complaining about IE but i get the impression you have never used ie9, which has served me well, i also have an iq of 145 thanks. I use firefox for school, its an alternative, doesnt make it better, your IP provider is the reason your browser sucks, or just your computer in general.

Safari doesnt seem very much more useful, just exclusively packaged for apple stuff, no longer a fan of apple as their good work has turned into a bunch of elitist crap that cant even keep the bugs out of their exclusive software.

Hello, im a toshiba user with windows vista homepremium and I BET my computer works better than yours.

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

I hate how people think low IQ means stupid an IQ test is usualy just a test of logic not directly related to intelligence

I sense I will get called stupid here

But anyway I suck at IQ tests because I'm pretty damaged mentally there's a question you get in some

"fit ten horses in to nine stables" complete with a picture of nine stables
I just couldn't work it out total baffled me
But then I was one of the smartest people in my class and the "stupid" people could do it, so no low IQ doesn't = stupid

I thought this was going to be because IE records all your history secretly without telling you, that's why I don't use it

Am I smart now? :D

I feel Firefox has always run better IE tries too hard and it fails most of the time

so i suppose the word INTELLIGENCE in the word intelligence quotient doesnt mean anything and isnt directly related to your level of perception and intelligence? thats hardly true.

you also know you are able to turn OFF that feature right? its only for people who dont want to lose their search history. i have mine erased everytime i close my browser. So unless microsoft is collecting data...

I've never taken a real IQ test before, only those crappy online ones where it's extremely easy to get over 140 :P
Anyway I use firefox, I don't think browser is related to IQ at all, most people who aren't very good with computers might use IE though simply because it's the default option, but it doesn't make them stupid or anything.

More target IE because it's still the most used browser on the PC, Safari on the PC I don't think would be any good, last I heard, it was full of exploits, worse than IE, but that was a few years back, so they have probably patched them.

What Rogue said...

I find it personally offensive that you think I'm offending you. It was a news story, I wasn't wrong in posting it, got a problem go complain to the source.

Pookie Powa!

Hm... I don't think I have a low IQ. I always used to use internet explorer, but now I use google chrome. I don't really care much for the browsers though. Whatever gets me on the internet and allows me to surf then that is fine.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Rofl. Cal, you fail.

Though, I wouldn't be surprised if that story was true.

His point was that he was posting an news article from a site which is usually has legitimate articles and sources. There are many facts that are proven scientifically that would insult some people. If it's a fact it can hardly be meant as an insult. Nothing in his post actually came across as insulting. In fact all he said is that he uses Safari, which is just the Apple equivalent of IE. And these days both IE and Safari are half decent browsers.

I could also in turn be insulted for you calling me an elitist who uses buggy software. However *I* know that it isn't true as i'm not like that at all and that i've found almost none of these bugs you mention.

The same as with any study there will always be outliers and exceptions. In many cases papers do play with the numbers to some extent. He was not personally attacking you with this, just a general comment on internet browsers.

Furthermore since the OP it was pointed out that it was a fake article and that there is no such data pointing to this evidence. Data speaks for itself and it needs to be remembered that it isn't always 100% factual. There are many stereotypes out there, some of them will have evidence, some of them won't - regardless it doesn't mean it is accurate.

He didn't mean to insult him and hiding behind Rogue seems to be the last thing he meant. At least for myself I interpreted it as him saying that she had already adequately worded what he would have said otherwise.

No one here is trying to say you are stupid for using IE. While there is a reputation associated with IE (mostly older versions) this doesn't mean it fits everyone. You said you use IE and clearly have some idea what you are doing and compared to other IE users you probably are a genius. However then looking the other way could you necessarily write your own firewall to do what the build in one does? Not necessarily.

Taking things personal here isn't needed as no one here meant to insult your intelligence or anything. In fact people on this forum seem to have a higher IQ on average than most of the internet. Again, an assumption that doesn't personally target anyone.

Anyway enough ranting!

I'm using IE right now actually, and it's really freaking fast. Faster than Firefox and maybe even Chrome, somehow... Still, some content doesn't load and just gives me that infamous box with the red X in the upper right corner. Lol. And sometimes it'll freeze up after I open a new tab for a second. I don't know.

I really like this.

To be honest I can't deal with IE now. I used it for a really long time because I was unaware that there were better browsers, but now when I do have to use IE (which doesn't happen often -- thank god) it frustrates the hell out of me.

I may not have an updated version of IE and that may be the problem, but it's just a loooot slower than Firefox or Google Chrome and the pages freeze way too often.

But yeah, I don't necessarily agree with the article about IQ and IE.
