He had no sparks on his SSJ form, but the hair style is the same as a SSJ2. Also, since Goku stated that Dabura was around the same level as Perfect Cell, there was no way that a weaker SSJ could have handle Dabura. So...what are your opinions? If this is obvious sorry

This entire argument can be found in the SSj2 Gohan (Cell games) vs Dabura thread :P I think it's SSJ2 personally for reasons I've stated many times in that thread. The hair, the fact Dabura was trying to kill him >_> etc and lines made after the fight.
Goku never stated which Cell. Perfect Cell surpressed? Full Powered Perfect Cell? Super Perfect Cell? And what does "About the same" mean? A bit weaker? A bit stronger? Edited by Clearin, Jun 27 2011, 01:36 PM.

You should see our Broly topics.  No, I do not believe he was SSj 2. As already mentioned in the certain topic, Gohan lacked the aura and the sparks. Two important form-traits that not even the stronger characters had. And the question: Why didn't Gohan go SSj 2 then in your view? Is answered by: As many other characters in the franchise's history, had made stupid mistakes risking earth's destruction, I would say that this could very well be Gohan's second earth risking mistake. |

i still think its possible gohans aura and hair got wild at the imminent event of a transformation, i used to believe gohan was ssj2 as well, but it looked like an honest mistake with the hair as in the anime they used thst same gohan as a template. Goku wasnt specific about which cell, but thats because to him cell was the same person, different forms or not. He doesnt call him by those different designations, so its safe to say goku was talking about cell period, which means...that if he WAS talking about super perfect cell, then gohan would have HAD to turn ssj2 in order to fight dabura. No way was he at this time able to take spc in mssj or base. If it was only perfect cell, (the one goku was alive for and fought) then no way did gohan turn ssj2, it could really go either way. So the day someone can answer for sure which cell goku means in his entirety, then its not gonna be possible to tell. Cause the drawing is messed up.

There is no way he would be SSJ2. Dabura is just as strong as Perfect Cell. If he would go SSJ2 he would still be able to defeat him. Since Gohan *****ed up Cell easly as SSJ2.Besides , Gohan made a good match against Dabura as a SSJ or MSSJ , who is at MSSJ Goku (Cell games). Of course he would win him easily if he went SSJ2. So no , he wasn't SSJ2. |

If I recall in the anime Gohan started in base, then went to Mssj then turned Super Saiyan 2 agaisnt Dabura. But the anime isn't exaclty anything to go by.
I know that lol :P I just mean it was harder for the viewer/reader to know which form of Cell he was talking about.
Yep. I see Dabura being near Cell as two possible ways. 1) Full power perfect Cell but a little stronger 2) Super Perfect Cell but a little weaker Either of those would let Gohan be weaker than he was 7 years ago and still match Dabura as a SSj2. Really whether you thought he was Ssj2 or Mssj you can take Goku's comment as a way to match what form you think Gohan was 
Dabura is about as strong as Cell, it was never stated what form of Cell, or even if he meant surpressed Cell or not. Or even if Dabura was a little weaker or stronger than that form. Edited by Clearin, Jun 27 2011, 04:20 PM.

I don't believe he was. Toriyama was consistent with the sparks in the original manga, and Gohan didn't have them. Plus, going by what he know it seems that Dabura is around Perfect Cell level (or SPC, I'm not sure which) which means that a SSJ2 Gohan (albeit a rusty one) should have been able to decisively take Dabura, which he didn't. |

Wasn't he also consistent in hairstyle though? Gohan's SSJ hair has 2 tufts in front, a regular one and a thin one. SSJ2 hair has only one tuft up front. When fighting Dabura, he only had one tuft up front. |

Not at all, Mssj had 2 strands at first, then one. Althrough he was still consistant about the SSj2 strand being longer and thinner.
If Dabura was at full power perfect Cell then a weakened Mssj wouldnt stand a chance, same for Super Perfect Cell. For Mssj Gohan to work Dabura would have to be about as strong as Surpressed Perfect Cell |

I don't see how SSJ Gohan could of even lasted against Dabura if he was on par with any Perfect Cell though? |

Akira decided to change Gohan's hairstyle, for unknown reasons. I think it was kinda not needed, but it was the mans choice so who can blame him? |
