Why didn't Goku let Trunks kill Hirudegarn?

The gun that won that old Wild West

After Trunks got Tapion's sword he proceeded to sever Hirudegarn's tail and from the way things were going it seemed that Trunks could of very well killed Hirudegarn.

So, why didn't Goku let him? It'd be one of the last chances that any other character besides Goku could of shined. Goku acted like he had some kind of personal beef with Hirudegarn, "No, Trunks! This monster is mine to finish!" or something like that. I think it would of made for a much better ending if Trunks killed him.

Or maybe I'm wrong and Trunks wasn't capable of actually killing him. But, it seemed that Trunks could of easily cut off Hirudegarn's head or something real quick before Goku stopped him. Thoughts?

Because.

Because Goku MUST be the hero. Letting a young eight year old be the "Man" of the movie is blasphemy to Toei. Look at what happen to Gotenks/Gohan.

A monster he just recently learned about? I'd rather they say he was just testing he's SSJ3 abilities rather than making it to be Goku's heroic finish.

There was no way Trunks was going to kill Hirudegarn with the sword. Even weakened from his tail being cut off, Hirudegarn still would've had enough power to smack Trunks into oblivion, unless you think Trunks had the power to make SSj3 Goku scream in pain.

no sasuke- i was saying i agree with you on the goku the hero thing, he hardly needed an excuse to test ssj3 he was the strongest he ever was in that form in that movie, but hurling insults and using the dragonpunch? half janemba /half king piccolo? cmon now, although it was pretty strange gohan got knocked the hell out like he did. Otherwise though, trunks isnt doing much, if tapions sword is so tough how come it broke later on? too many inconcistencies. Oh well, goku the hero wins again.

Tbh look at the OVA Yo son Goku and Friends return!.
Goku is so desperate to be the hero he distracts Vegeta and deflects the energy ball himself.

Tapion never happened in the other timeline. Besides it being non-canon, it must have been a different sword.

Trunks never stood a chance. It took someone on SS3 level of power to even be somewhat of a challenge, so Base Trunks was nothing and he got a surprise attack in. Lets see Trunks a full frontal attack with the sword and see how well he does...as ***** would be grass and Hirudegarn is the lawnmower. :D

Ultimate Gohan did nothing. Beyond SSJ3 Level anyone? One of the most well made DBZ movies with a horrible ending.

If Hildegarn knocked SSJ3 Gotenks and Mystic Gohan why would Trunks alone defeat him?.

Also, Goku knew Hildegarn's weakness, thats why he used the Dragon Fist to finish him.

That's only in the English dub. In the original, all Goku talks about is Hirudy's weakness when it attacks.
