We need a DBZ jargon buster; yup..

Ok before i begin, i decided to post in this subforum, rather than in Forum suggestions because ultimately this has something very DBZ-concrete about it, i feel.

countless times i've been reading over some of the versus threads and quite frankly i just get lost, seeing power level comparisons such as this:

LSSj Broly (movie 10) >= Mr. Boo > SSj2 Goku/Vegeta > SSj2 Kid Gohan > SSj2 Teen Gohan >= Super Perfect Cell > Perfect Cell (full power) SSj Broly > Dabra (full power) > SSj Teen Gohan > SSj Trunks > SSj Goten

now for the most part it seems easy to decipher; > means greater than. but what about >= ? does it mean greater than and/or equal too? yes i did go to school too, but these power level "equations" get a bit over my head sometimes.

also we need some definition for all the SSj2, LSSj terms etc. I'm sure everybody knows that SSj stands for Super Saiyajin, then all you have to do is look at the corresponding number to know what form they're talking about.

SS or SSj = Super Saiyan or Super Saiyajin
LSSj = Legendary Super Saiyajin (as used with Broly)
MSSj Vegeta = Marjin Super Saiyajin Vegeta
USSj Gohan = Ultimate Super Saiyajin Gohan

etc etc etc..

however a few times i've come across this MSSj Gohan. now to my knowledge i'm pretty sure M stands for Marjin, eg in the Marjin Buu Saga. that being said, i don't ever recall Gohan being under the Marjin sign? and if it meant Mystic, then what is the difference between mystic and ultimate gohan.

i am forever reading about someone's reference to Boo arc. does this mean the Buu Archives? meaning information gathered from the anime series of the Buu Saga? if so, it'd be good to have that term defined properly. i admit that at first glance of the term Boo arc, i thought it was something regarding the Manga series, so i was lost..

how bout listing all the 100% guaranteed power levels from the series, rather than guesstimating based on certain events and form (saiyan for example) changes. that way we can have at least some hard evidence for people to read.

also another last request, if we can have a list of the characters and what season's of the animated series, were they featured/debuted in. for example:

Vegito was in the GT seasons, episode *number goes here*

Super Saiyajin level 4 Goku was in the GT seasons, episode *number goes here*

that would give quite a handy advantage to being able to quickly and easily make reference by either memory or going to your dvd/vcr and watching that particular episode. just the arrival of when a certain character first made it onto the anime series, would suffice. we don't need a list of all the eps someone featured in, etc.

yes, this appears to be perhaps a mini DBZ wiki request. i hope that all members who are serious about DBZ, and especially about helping others, give some thought to building a DBZ jargon buster thread as i've tried to explain. I seriously feel it would be a fantastic addition to this forum =)

if i am clearly wrong in any of the fields i've covered, then please help to enlighten me. I went to the effort of writing this thread for the greater good and benefit, so i feel i shouldn't be flamed just due to me discussing incorrect information, etc.

in conclusion, this forum is supposed to be community right? and in this community i feel it's only fitting to explain these DBZ related technical terms so that they easily understood by the amateur newcomers and elite members alike. we shouldn't discriminate against those who may perhaps not have the level of Dragonball Z knowledge of some here, but to enlighten them as to the verbal terms of Dbz. i mean, aren't we all here for a common goal/passion? that passion is of course, WE. LIKE. DRAGONBALL Z.

period.

mssj/fpssj: mastered ssj, or full power ssj. first used by goku and gohan after leaving the rosat. the form is equal in power with regular ssj, but has no ki drain, because it has become their natural form through practice.

rosat: room of (space/spirit?) and time. the original name for the

hbtc/htc: hyperbolic time chamber

assj/ssjg2: ascended super saiyan, or super saiyan grade 2. not an actual form, but a combination of the ki weighting technique and super saiyan.

ussj/ssjg3: ultra super saiyan, or super saiyan grade 3. an advanced version of assj, very powerful, but slow.

ki weighting: a technique used by master roshi, goku, vegeta, trunks, cell, and possibly frieza. the user pumps ki into their muscles, increasing their muscle mass. the benefit is increased strength and power, with the downside of decreased stamina and speed progression. not meaning that speed actually drops, just that the speed progression doesn't keep up with the power.

arc: story arc. a section of the story defined by one unifying theme, usually the main villain. in db, that would be pilaf, red ribbon, and piccolo. in dbz, that would be saiyan, frieza, cell, and buu. in gt, that would be baby, super 17, and shenron.

saga: smaller, more defined story section. for example the 21st budokai saga is at the end of the pilaf arc. the namek saga is the part of the frieza arc that takes place on namek, but before the fight with frieza. in gt, the dragonball saga is the search for the black star dragonballs.

pl/bp: power level, or battle power. the numbers used from the raditz saga up until the trunks saga to show how strong a person appears to be.

mystic/ultimate: a ritual performed by old kai, that releases all the hidden power of an individual, and condenses any transformations they might have into their base, eliminating any ki drain from transforming.

there's many more, but that's all i could think of right now.

oh yeah:

> greater than

~ roughly equal to

= equal to

>= greater than or equal to, or slightly greater than, depending on the context.

>> much greater than.

>>> or more >'s: stupidly greater than.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

I think Lunar2 said all that can be said. I'll just add that you can go to the dbzwiki and find out most of this a lot of information there. Good luck!

Don't agree exactly with what you said about the Freeza arc though....

Also-

SPC=Semi-Perfect Cell

I don't know if any other abbreviations/acronyms are used for Cell's forms around here.

Japanese names sometimes used-

Saiyajin=Saiyan
Tenkaichi Budokai=World Martial Arts Tournament
Pocus=Pui Pui
Gurd=Guldo
Muten Roshi=Master Roshi
Genkai Dama=Spirit Bomb
Makankosappo=Special Beam Cannon
Kienzan=Destructo Disc
Kikoho=Tri-beam
Kaioshin=Supreme Kai
Kaio=Kai (eg-King Kai and his rival Kais of the same level)

Not sure of any more

SSJ4 Gogeta > Omega Shenron

Like that. Lunar2 basically explained the rest.
The blonde girl with the black lips turned to Valkyrie.
"We know," she said. "We've seen the future. We know you're going to kill the world..."

Release it Gohan! Release everything! Remember all the pain he's caused... The people he's hurt... NOW MAKE THAT YOUR POWER!!!!

I agree, this should be made into a more coherent list and then pinned in the versus section.

Pocus=Pui Pui

Pocus is actually the Viz name for Pui-Pui. Haha.

This isn't complete and is still a bit unorganized, but it's coming along at least. It may look a bit complicated at first, but you'll get it after a little reading. Also, some of the fan-made terms clearly aren't correct with what they're describing (i.e. Super Saiyan Grade 4 for Broly), but I included them because that's also what fans use. I'm not trying to spread misinformation, mind you.

yeah that's originally what i had in mind. no point pinning it if the replies are all over the place.

also i think we still need a timeline of when some characters first appeared on the anime series. eg Frieza's debut was in the Namek saga, episode ##

and perhaps go even further to list the episodes when saiyan's for instance, made their form changes.

eg. Super Saiyan Goku first appeared during the Frieza saga, episode ##

Perfect Cell debuted on episode ## of the Cell saga etc

SSj2 Gohan destroyed Cell with the Kamehameha in episode ##

that way for people who have the anime series, and want to ether refer to a particular episode or just want to watch scenes like when Gotenks was beating up on Buu, they can just search for the corresponding episode and season.

Don't people have their own DBZ sources for that sort of thing? At least the ones who are intense debaters I would think they do

An entire episode list can be found on just about any DBZ site. Names and acronyms are a little tougher, though, which is why I think we should do that instead. An episode list just seems tedious in my opinion.
