XIII has had a very mixed reaction from fans and gamers in general. I for one loved the fact that you couldn't decide who was in your party till later in the game, because it meant you had to use everybody and get a feel for them. I was disappointed that there weren't towns, and the overall real linearity, but I still really enjoyed it. The characters kind of made the game, each one had something special about them. |

I liked it. It was far from the best yet but it was still pretty good. It did need more sidequests and more places to go. But it was playable. |

.. I couldn't even finish this game. I stopped at the point where it's suppose to be getting 'good' as in, the part where you can add any party member and do side quests (and I'm a side quest whore) I stopped cause I had no idea what was going on and why i should even care for these characters. Plus, I kept wanting to smash Vanille's face in. I also love exploring so the linear one way maps really made me mad. The battle system wasn't too bad. But really, I don't remember picking much besides auto the whole time and waiting for the fight to end. It only got intense during boss fights. |

I hated most of the characters. The voice acting was horrible. Why are we rarely ever given the Japanese dub option? That's why I could never finish Phantasy Star. I couldn't take it. |

I actually thought the voice acting and characters were very good :/. My favorites were Lightning and Hope, and especially their Teacher-student relationship, really touching. WHat mad you guys not like either? |

Hope was annoying in the beginning. He was mad at Snow, talked about confronting him and revenge and everything and when it finally comes down to it he does nothing. He gets better once he starts taking advice from Lightning. So I was kind of just neutral to him after that. I was pretty neutral towards Lightning too. Like I said, I never really found a reason to care about the characters very much. I didn't mind the voice actors too much. It was really just Vanille's that I hated. |

HustLa and I are playing the game together. Snow and the one girl with the tattoos are my favorite characters. I don't think there will ever be a final fantasy as good as 7, but I did like the characters and the graphics. We still have to finish it so now spoilers xd. |

liking the story, liking the battle system, although if i wanted autobattle, i could have stuck with ff12's gambit system (gambits and licenses >>>>>>>> roles and crystarium >>> typical turn based/ active time battle and limited character classes). vanille can be annoying, a little, as can snow, but i'm really starting to get attached to these guys. linear is neither good nor bad, really, as long as the game is properly designed. |

list of canon sources: the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga. list of non canon sources: everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality. for those that blindly follow word of god | |

I don't think the game was controversial... I enjoyed it, but it could have been better. I didn't like the linearity and the lack of side quests outside of the hunts. The fact that you could only return to a small number of places didn't help either. I like the combat system here where it kinda of borrowed and modified off FF12. Didn't really like the whole sit there and watch the battle kind of thing in FF12, though I appreciate they were trying something different for a change. I'm hoping they'll address some of these issues in FFXIII-2 |

Wow, I'm actually completely of the same opinion with everything you said. Lightning and Hope were my favourite characters too. The only character I didn't like was Vanille, but I can still understand and respect her. For me it was more like a movie I really enjoyed then a game...I went through everything as fast as possible just to get to the next part of the story (which was hard to understand at first before everything was explained, but quite well written)...but it was mainly for the characters I kept going. The combat system was kind of boring apart from using the summons. It got a little bit more interesting near the end when you got each characters special move...they should of had like 8 of those special moves per character and started getting them earlier, that would of made it more fun. Most of the time it was just spamming auto-battle. I was disappointed at the lack of places to explore...Pulse was a let down. I liked having towns to go around and NPC's to talk to. Still, it was kind of understandable as they were on the run the whole game. Overall though it was good. The in-game graphics were amazing, the cinematic stunning, and I enjoyed watching the characters grow and develop as the story progressed. I was sad to see it end when I finished the game, but it really was about the story and characters for me, so I won't be playing it again for awhile. If FFXIII-2 fixes the flaws FFXIII had and keeps the same level of character design and plot, it'll be a great game. They should make the story a bit easier to understand though, some of my friends who played FFXIII had no idea what was going on, and that would of really ruined the game for me. |
