During the 1970's and 80's we had Boxers like Ali, Foreman and Frazier. Nowadays we have The Klitchko's, Amir Khan, Tyson Fury, David Haye and Floyd Mayweather. So how do they compare? Yes there are more recognisable names now but that's just because of a broader media service. Are today's top boxers mediocre in comparison to the all time greats like Ali, Joe lewis and Sugar Ray Robinson? How would they fare against such fighters? I'm not entirely sure. I'd like to believe that Ali, Frazier and Robinson had enough actual skill to put down any of todays fighters despite maybe not being as well conditioned. Vitali Klitchko for example is scrappy and clinches a lot. Amir Khan has a weak chin and lets his guard down and David Haye's technique is too orthodox and predictable. Not that the all time greats were flawless. But their technique seemed to be a touch above todays top class boxers. of course we will never know. |

The old boxers were one out of a bunch you know, they were a league of their own, not only did they had guts but they were actual talents, Joe Louis was known to have no flaw in his boxing style, also his stats were perfect, fast, strong great endurance, and a good chin. Take Rocky Marciano for example, everyone is extremely underrating him, but were you amazed when you see his fight´s man, you are seeing talent. He was fast he was slipping punches, he was able to go thirty rounds with his endurance i bet, he barely felt tired after the worst bruises or cuts, and he had a punch damn did you saw how walcott was down? Were do you see a Louis or a Marciano these days? They are great fighters, but in the league of the All Time greats? No. Take Sugar Ray Robinson now, speed, power, chin, endurance combined perfectly into one body, that man was a machine. And take Muhammad Ali what a man, how often did he prove that he is the greatest of all time? Enough times. Mike Tyson, what a beast, he was fast, also heaving a chin and great power and endurance. Today everyone lacks, either is it strength, speed, chin. It is like that those who shocked the world are dying out. Seriously. Will you´r children remember Mayweather Jr.? Sure, as a champion. But seriously as one of the greats like Sugar Ray Leonard? No. Edited by Nusu, Dec 15 2010, 06:03 PM.

Today's boxing is mediocre at best because of gangster boxing promoters who destroyed the sport. Joe Louis, "Sugar" Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard, Mike Tyson, Rocky Marciano, Jack Johnson, Marvin Hagler, Roy Jones Jr., Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Evander Holyfield, Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, and Jack Dempsey were only a few of many greats that I could think off of the top of my head. Boxing today is sloppy and boring. Everybody is just trying to be a wannabe Ali. Ali was one of a kind, and was the first to beat people mentally rather than physically. Remember the Rope - A - Dope technique he used against Foreman? Foreman was a harder puncher than Tyson, Marciano, etc. He was an absolute beast when it came to punching, and slugged away at Ali for eight rounds before the G.O.A.T. KO'd his ***** with four or five punches. Muhammad Ali was tougher than any boxer when you think about. He was NEVER KO'd. Joe Frazier had a monster left hook, I suspect the hardest left hook in the history of boxing. In the fifteenth round he hit Ali square on the chin in their first fight together, and it downed Ali. You'd expect it to be an instant KO after going through fifteen rounds, but no, before the referee even started to count Ali was straight back up. Granted, Ali lost that fight because he thought it'd be an easy win, he was so fast, smart, and could take 15 rounds of pure punishment and still get up after a monster left hook. Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight of all time. His stye was perfect, he was a hard puncher, and could throw his attacks really fast. "Sugar" Ray Robinson... Man, I don't even have to say anything about him. My top 10 boxers. 10: Evander Holyfield 9: Jack Dempsey 8: Sonny Liston 7: Jack Johnson 6: George Foreman 5: Marvin Hagler 4: Rocky Marciano 3: Muhammad Ali 2: Joe Louis 1: "Sugar" Ray Robinson |

Paquiano? Yeah he's pretty good. But so is Amir Khan. The point is, are they on par with the greats? How would Paquiano stand up to Ray Robinson? How would Khan? I doubt they'd last long. |

Yes! That guy! I'm not a huge boxing fan, so I don't know about being on par with the greats. I mean--no one is. That's why they're greats, right? Of course, I think Ali owns all though. |

I bet my house, that Muhammad Ali from the Henry Cooper, Sonny Liston and Floyd Patterson fights can beat any boxer you name. |

I dunno. I'm not sure that Ali has the same amount of endurance and toughness as the one who faught Foreman and Frazier. So a prime Mike Tyson might be able to take him down. |

Did you saw how Muhammad easily slipped Sonny´s punches? The Sonny who beated up Floyd Patterson twice. Muhammad is way to fast for Mike to slug with him, secondly, Muhammad has an stinging jab that hurts. My money is on Muhammad if somebody goes back in time and puts them into the ring for a fight. Muhammad played technical with George, because he knew thats the only way of winning, and that was with the rope-a-dope. Muhammad became tougher but the years he got stolen by the judge, took away most of his prime.
