Ok so I just watched UFC 119 and was very impressed with the fitness and physique of the fighters on there. So I decided maybe I should try and get back into shape since I've been very lazy recently. I could only find my small weights mind and I don't think I'm ready for the bar bell yet. But still, 100 reps with each arm and they started to feel heavy, like gravity had increased around my arms. So I'm obviously more out of shape than I thought considering each dumbell only weighs 2.5. I don't know whether that's Kilograms or pounds. They just say 2.5 on the side.

Then I moved on to sit ups of which I could only manage about 20. Not that I was counting. Then I did press ups which I always struggle to do correctly for some reason meaning I could only manage 4. I've never managed more than 12 so I must be doing something wrong. It's not like I'm weak or anything.

Now I feel funny, my arms are tingly, my head is a bit dizzy and I'm a bit shakey. Should I sit it out or is there something I need to do?

Dude its fine.
If you havent lifted in a long time or havent exercised much then its normal to feel funny.
If you get dizzy in your head then your not just breathing properly when you lift weights. People sometimes tend to hold their breath in and so you feel light headed cause of no oxygen flow.

Your body just isnt used to it, it takes time.

Doesn't help that I was counting out loud then. I wanted to do 100 reps with each arm and I'd lose count if I did it in my head. My body probably wasn't used to pumping blood that fast either.

Should my arms still be aching a day later?

Yup they should. Be proud that your arms are sore, means you worked hard and your muscles have broken down and separate. Make sure you are eating healthy to compensate fro this and they will heal and recover faster and be stronger than last time. Thats how you know youve worked hard.

DbzHybrid is right too, likelyhood is that your subconsciously holding your breath when doing push-ups. Relax. Im willing to bet if you could breath right you can do 10 press-ups.
Heres a simple goal thats realistic, every day you train, and do say 4 press-ups keep that number in your head and the next day you do it, aim to do one more. Push for that extra 1 everyday, progressing to ther point you can do 100 press-ups. Do this with all the exercises you do, either that 1 more or that second longer.

Breath out as you let your body go down on your arms and inhale deep as you push yourself back up and count in your head. Breathing is the key, gives your muscles the energy and oxygen needed to do the task. Just relax and tell yourself to breath till it becomes natural.
I used to do the same thing till i realised that all i was doing was holding my breath and holding myself back.

What tends to happen when I do push ups is that I can't keep my body straight so I end up arched when I push up which I think is what's making it much more difficult.

Maybe its best if you work on developing your core muscles then, your abdominal area and back mucles. Do this by lying on your back and lifting your legs 6 inches off the ground and point your toes, arms down by your side and raise your head, you will feel your stomach muscles tighten. Keep note of how long you do this and aim to do it longer next time.

Also try the Plank, lying on your front, raise yourself on your elbows, torso raised off the ground, back straight (try not to put your butt in the air as it defeats the purpose of the exercise) only your toes and elbows touching the deck. Same as above, keep time and push till you cant go longer.

Try putting your back flat against a wall, legs out in front and bend your knees so your feet are flat and your knees are ouy front and stretch out with both arms in front and hold.

These are what i call stress-exercises and burns your muscles and forces you to tense muscles in your body and to fight through the discomfort and pain for as long as you can stand. These will help develop your core muscles and make it easier to do press-ups.

Remeber to control your breathing, have music playing too if you like to inspire and motivate you and also maybe use as a timer of sorts. Relax and breath.

Ill definately take some of those into consideration when my muscles stop aching. What I'm aiming for is a clearly visible six pack and beefy pecks. So plenty of sit ups, weights lifting, press ups, pull ups and the odd mile run should do the trick after about 6 months.
