following the recent "future trunks timeline" post, I've proposed a new discussion somewhere along those lines. trunks indeed travels back in time to warn the z fighters, then again to aide them in thier battle with the androids. now using my prior knowledge of space/time continuum the death of the androids in the future should have come following their death in the present time. the z fighters should have existed in the future according to the rules of the butterfly effect. change in the post should have brought change in the future. ...what im basically saying is that in his future when he returned, z fighters should be alive, goten should have been born, androids dead, no more cell, future should be bright sunny. Basically everything before GT should have been realized! His return to the future should have become a continuum of the present time in which he helped defeat cell. His current enemy at that moment should have been... Baby! Since he was around that age at his departure. he should not have gone back to the future to meet the androids and cell, because his goal for traveling to the post was to warn the z fighters in hopes of changing the future (his current timeline), he certainly didn't travel back in time to train! |

oh ok thanks for clearing that up, because the headache was too much. akira should not have been messing with time. anyways I will investigate some more until then, this topic can be closed. |

I wondered why it didnt change in the future either but the simple answer is it isnt his past. He travelled to a different timeline completely different to his. |

Trunks when´t not to his past, He went to another timeline to warn the Z-Fighters, The only thing that bugs me is why did trunks go to this timeline? And not to any other?

I think every time someone travels through time, it creates an alternate time-line so as to avoid paradoxes.

That's pretty much what I was going to say, seems like the best explanation, that it is impossible to travel back on his own time line because the events have already happened and cannot be changed so every time you travel back you end up in a different timeline and when you go forward in time you end up in your own time line again because on the other timeline you went to, you can't go into the future because it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully I have made sense |

I'm going to agree on the Paradox theory. I don't think it was POSSIBLE for Trunks go back into his own timeline. It's the same reason that Cell ended up going back to another timeline |

I think some of you are making it too hard to understand. Trunks just traveled 20 years into the past (at the time Goku was supposed to return to Earth and defeat Frieza & King Cold). He can't travel back to his own time because his own time is the one he traveled from. He simply entered in what year he'd like to go back to and that's where he went. By going back in time and warning the Z-fighters about the androids, it somehow caused a change in reality (Goku getting the heart virus earlier than expected, androids 16, 19, & 20 appearing, 17 & 18 being far more powerful than their future counterparts and not going on a murderous rampage). It's a pretty easy concept to understand. |

No, Trunks didn´t go to his timeline´s past, Cause he stated it wouldn´t change anything if he would prevent things here, Trunks knew that.. that if he goes to his timeline he would end up in a new one, Where the past is present. Ryanson is right, It would end up in a paradox if he would go to his own timeline. |

Didn't Trunks say he went back in time with the hope that he could learn some something (a technique, strategy, or anything) that could help him defeat the androids in his time? He didn't go back in time to create a butterfly effect, but just to get knowledge or strength. Also, he wouldn't bother going to other parallel worlds to save them from Cell or Androids since it wouldn't matter. If there are billions of other worlds, then it would be a waste of time to try to change them all (some wouldn't even need his help, depending on how different they are). |

didnt trunks say he cant change what happened in his timeline no matter what but the least he could do is stop it from happening in another world. and also find out how to beat the androids (which he succeeded in doing).
