Why can't I seem to gain weight? Lifting not helping...

Ok well I just weighed myself and seen that I weigh like 102 pounds, now I'm about 5 five foot and five inches and half. I've been working out, my max in benching is at 160(I think that's pretty good for my weight) so I thought that when I benched 160 I would probably be a little heavier since it would make sense I would have gained weight through muscle but I still weigh the same it's a little frustrating if I weighed more than I'd be able to lift more. I'm targeting 180 as a max before the end of the year but its going to be hard to achieve that if I can't gain any weight but no matter I'm determined to get to 180 as my max in benching before the end of the year.

Muscle mass gain is really slow man you can't expect to see it on a scale right away. If you keep working out though I'm sure you can make 180 regardless of how much you weigh.

You're benching 160 at just over a hundred lbs? That's over 50% of your weight. That's phenomenal.

If you want to gain weight, you need to eat a lot of meats and throw peanut butter down the hatch with it. You'll get swollen as hell in no time if you carry a tub of peanut butter around and continue your weightlifting routines.

Maxing 160 at a hundred lbs is sick by the way.

I was actually surprised I was able to lift that much since it's not like I gained any weight to begin with but I did, I eat a lot of meat peanut butter however is a different thing since I don't really like it

lol no french fries. Being able to bench 160 does sound pretty impressive. I don't lift weights so what i'm about to suggest may be a little off. What i suggest you do is do you max amount of reps at 160 (of course eat right) then rest for a day or more to give your body some time to recover then repeat the process until you feel like increasing the weight.

I'm curious, how many push ups can you do? I want to know what benching 160 relates to how many push ups you can do.

You only weigh 100lbs! I think I'm around 150/160, although I'm half a foot taller than you. But lifting 160lbs is pretty darn impressive.

As for putting on weight, I can only echo that you eat meat and other foods that have been suggested.

Try to have a routine with dumbells to work on different parts of your arms.
When I used Dumbells I held an 8KG one in each hand and held my arms out straight infront of me and rotated my wrists outwards, slowly, 50 times and then 50 times inwards.

Thanks for advice everyone and I'm pretty proud of being able to lift 160 just two years ago when I took weight lifting in my gym class I started with a max of 75 pounds, I was embarrassed and ashamed of course then I graduated that same year my max was 105 still was embarrassed by it no one else in my class had a max under 140 After graduating I didnt work out for over a year which means I lost some max yet again but started working out again full time towards the middle of December of last year. I didnt push myself as far as I could do I always had some excuse not to lift much, however by the time January came I had made it to 130 as my max I was still not content of course I wanted to lift more I wanted to be able to be proud of something, after mid January I didnt work out until February where I started working out a lot at the gym then July I didnt have much workout because things happened came August I started working out 4 days a week and go out for jogs and so this last Monday my friend who was also my work out partner in high school decided he wanted to start working out again and when I maxed I maxed 160, I actually felt proud and good to know that all the work out had paid and I no longer had to be embarrassed of that 75 pound max I once had. Of course even though I'm happy I can lift 160 I still want to achieve higher levels I want to prove to myself that the people that used to make fun of me because of me being a short guy and light were wrong, that just because I'm short and light I am not weak I understand that having more weight can help increase my max which is why I wish I could just gain easier, but I guess I'll have to do it the hard way. And now I'm going to push myself even more than I used to push myself (won't over do it of course, after all over workout is bad too) but yes push myself higher. I used to be paranoid and think I needed 6 to 7 days a week of workout, but when I started working out only 4 times a week I actually had better results then when i was working out 6 days a week.

By the way as for my new work out routine, Ill bench two days a week, incline bench press two days a week (Monday's and Thrusdays=bench press) (Tuesday's and Fridays=incline) and of course in each of those days I have other work outs as well including abs, the little weight things(dung bells?not sure whats it called) pull ups, etc etc. Since after all my idea was to get toned and in shape which is working. I know that meat is good to try and gain weight so I'm going to try and eat more meat than I used to

And green I'm not sure how many push ups I can do with all the other work outs I do I end up forgetting to do push ups but I think that's something I will start doing so I can achieve my goal of 180 before the year is over. Because now I have something that I was missing in high school when I lifted, now I have confidence that I can do it.

Again thanks for everyone's advice I will def remember it

Edit: Wow I really need to start double spacing more, I always make word walls.

Potatoes will fatten you up. If you like them, throw them down the hatch. You could also start administering some protein if you are healthy. I don't mean to sound like your grandpa, but it may be advisable to consult a doctor about any supplement you have in mind if you're up for it. There's no doubt it will help you, but you better do some research for your own good first to see if it's the right idea for you. Obviously these supplements can be tough on your kidneys. Keep that in mind, and don't go over-doing it. (Unless you like to risk heart failure and varying kidney damage)

Just EAT man. Be a little gluttonous. You're below your target weight at 5'6/100 lbs. You need to gain about 30 or so lbs, so for god's sake you've got plenty of room to gain. Eat a lot of potatoes, meats, pinto-beans, peanuts, bread, and drink milk with your meals. Not low-fat or skim. Vitamin D, son. Husky. You could drink some water with those meals too if you'd like. I think that would be beneficial. Anyway.

That's the problem I do tend to eat a lot already but doesnt seem to be having any effect. I think I'll lay off the substances. And I'm not sure Im5'6'' but if I'm not I'm close to it anyways. I actually don't look as scrawny as my weight says I am which is kind of weird but if I could eat more I would eat more than i already do but I'm constantly yelled at by my moms bf accuses me of not sharing things and eating everything myself when thats not even true, I love sharing everything i love giving things too but he does not understand I'm still a growing person and thats why I eat more than everyone else but eh as soon as I can I'll move out and then I'll have no one telling me what to do

I figure he'll become gluttonous on his own accord because his body will tell him so if he keeps up the regiment.
