The movies are an adaptation of the main story. They take some things and leave some things. That way we know what part of the story the movie is from, and they have room to make the movie instead of being constricted by timelines. You cannot make a movie around the Buu Saga if the Z-Fighters are all busy dealing with Buu.

 yeah didnt notice these before..... something i want to know is how they got away with the whole hitler thing (even though he is called dictator in the credits) it is obviously him (because he says he should be recruiting goten and trunks when they go super sayain because they have blonde hair (because he thought blonde hair meaant u were superioir))

 They got away with it because they turned it into a complete parody. If they had actually used swastikas and had people dying or had him calling people Jews, then they'd have gotten some nasty phone calls.

Well it did manage to slice Frieza into a shishkebab so it must've been packing more power than your average blade. Hell even Zelda's sword couldn't pull off that ****.

 The movies get too much credit, but you can actually say that the movies are there own timeline and dont have to fit the manga, the ones that actually fit the manga are Bojack Unbound(9), and Broli Returns(10) those are the only ones that "defiantly" fit the time line of the manga.

Bojack Unbound is odd because Trunks is back. Even though they mention it in the movie, it's still a bit odd.

And with Broly Second Coming, where are Vegeta and Piccolo? Vegeta's somewhat excusable, but you never see Piccolo not save Gohan, and Gohan definitely needed saving here. It's cool that Krillin actually did something for once, but still.

 i sorta knew that second coming was part of the timeline beacause that was when trunks and goten was given the dragon radar and sent to search out dragonballs...

im i mistaken?

Gohan didn't train in his Saiyaman costume. Goten knowing who Goku is is a plothole.

Maybe, but then where is Piccolo?

Actually, don't even answer that. Haha. The simple fact is that it couldn't take place anytime after Gohan was training for the 25th. The manga didn't reach the point where Vegeta was dead yet and whatnot, so the movie couldn't possibly have been that far ahead.

I believe as it has been mentioned movies are more like an alternate reality. Like Dead Zone for example that movie doesn't really fit into the time line (hence Garlic Jr. saga doesn't make much sence. Its been a long time since I've watched the movie but from what I remember Picollo and Goku encounter each other for the first time since DB, which happened with the Raditz saga as well. Goku and Picollo join forces to fight Garlic junior just like they did with Raditz and I think that Gohan had a sudden burst of power too right? Just like against Raditz. So if thats the case couldn't Fusion Reborn be an alternate reality? Well I was about to say one where Vegetas sacrifice worked, but that has to be thrown out of the window since Goku mentioned going Super Saiyan 3 against Buu. I guess what someone else here said is the best possibility an alternate reality where Gohan defeated Buu.

 i always put garlic about a year before raditz, tree of might and worlds strongest between saiyan saga and namek saga, lord slug in an alternate timeline completely replacing frieza, cooler during three year break, cooler again during three year break, super 13 and broly during ten days of peace, bojack unbound a couple of months after cell during trunks final visit after destroying his androids and his cell, broly2 during month of training before tourney, bio-broly day after tourney before all ***** breaks loose with buu, fusion reborn between gokus return to other world and gokus return too earth (must be alt timeline though as stated above), and wrath of the dragon within the six months after kid buu that mr. buu is on kai planet.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god
