I like playing Halo and all, but I've noticed a couple of things that I think are just absurd. Like how you needed to Pre Order Halo 3 ODST to have Srg. Johnson as a playable character, and then they made him download content, but he costs 99.999 MSP's (thats about $1,200.00 and yes, some people have purchased it )and now there is the "Legendary Edition" for "Halo 3: Reach" comming out, that, if you pre-order, you get a bunch of collectibles, but you also get the signature "Flaming Head" for your spartan in game, which is what set Bungie Staff members apart from everyone else in Halo 3 Matchmaking, as well as a special armor for the alien race the "Elites" that no one else will have. This is cool and all, except you have to pre-order it, and it only costs $150.00......yeah. so, besides trying to make money off their consumer whore fan base, I think it's absurdly pricey even if you didn't have to pre order the stupid thing. I mean, common, thats half of what you pay for a freakin XBOX 360 Elite. *sigh* well, I am glad to say I'm enough of a free thinker to realize it's not worth my money, and I'd probably feel like a consumer whore parading it around, so I don't think I could enjoy even if I could get it for free. It's pretty much a way to tell other players "I'm a super Die Hard fan, and I paid 150 bucks for this, so don't make fun of this or I'll feel lame for buying it." I stopped pre-ordering anything from Bungie after halo 3. I saw this coming with the release of those mini helmets. And if you've seen commercials for the newest games, other companies are inserting special content for pre-orders. I don't think I understand what's going on here or who is doing it. It might just be game stop/ EB games. Edited by Rockman, Apr 27 2010, 01:46 AM.

seems like it. the pre order deal does seem to come from the company directly for this newest bungie title, but for the most part it's through Gamestop. |

Sometimes the Pre-order bonuses are worth it because you get the game a day before it's actually out. However, most of the time the extra content is available for download a few weeks later anyway. |

True, but as Temphis said that extra content is massively over-priced anyway. I share your sentiments Temphis, but I think charging that money is just Bungies' way of keeping Survival of the Fittest relevant; those that buy these bonuses for ridiculous prices will preferably be left with too little money to keep themselves as attractive mate prospects, helping to keep the gene pool clean. |

^ lol interesting theory I quit pre ordering games a while back when I figured the features weren't really worth it and most games can be easily bought anywhere as I noticed they try to make it look like if you don't pre order it then you wont' get it at all which is almost never the case. I don't know how anyone would want to pay that much for simple add ons for any game no matter how good the game might be or the add on might be. |

I think this might be a good time to key in on paid add-ons. World of Warcraft for example allows you to buy special pets and mounts. However if you think about the price for what you are getting, it's not worth the money. If anyone can buy it, that makes it not as rare and kind of stupid if you ask me. You know what is really rewarding in a game though, is getting something with a very low drop rate. Another WoW example would be getting Rivendare's Charger with a .1% chance to drop off a certain boss. While many people can simply go in and kill the boss 5 times every hour, people do this for months and never get it. In halo, the hyabusa armor was the most sought after armor the game had to offer. But since everyone went and looked up how to get the armor, everyone has it. It's not a secret or a rarity. Edited by Rockman, Apr 28 2010, 12:30 AM.

Or getting that stupid rare item in Final Fantasy XIII that's only available by killing Adamantoises. It has a 1% drop rate but you need it to make tier 3 weapons. |

you've got a point, except that Hyabusa armor isn't a rare drop, and even if it was rare, it was only rare because other people didn't know how to get, not because they couldn't. Halo should not try to become a "Virtual World" like WOW is where only certain people are privaliged enough (because they paid for it) to have certain things. It's a consol game first, and it's supposed to be fun and make everyone happy second. WOW's goal isn't to be fun, but to keep you playing, and if they give you a rare item no one else has, you are likely more excited to go on and show it off. If they are just excited to show off something they paid for however, they are just a consumer whore that doesn't have good priorities with their money, and probably a little insecure too. People that buy things from a company to "help the company" are gonna get used by the company and exploited, Blizzard is doing this better than anyone else in the gaming world. It's like how in WOW, certain rare things you don't normally pay a lot for but are limited offer, you could buy for a lot on ebay, and if you get it and show it off, yeah people are gonna think it's cool because not many people have it, however, if they were to know you just forked out a butt load of money for it and that they could have done the same, but wouldn't because it's way too much money, it wouldn't seem all that special anymore hu? well with Reach's flaming head, it's a given, cause their is no other way to get it. I think it's gonna be looked down on a little, but mostly, I think it's Bungie's way of "realizing" their fanbase' obsession with their product "deserves" more money, so they found a new gimmick. Funny thing is, despite how absurd it might be, Halo fans are lining up to fork out 150 bucks for a 60 dollar game and get some collectibles, all to "support" bungie, since this is their final Halo game. I think if they really cared, they wouldn't support the new gimmick, because I think it was a horrible idea. Halo Reach is nothing compared to the people who bought Johnson for ODST by paying around $1,200.00, but either way, I don't support these gimmicky, limited offer ideas in a virtual world that doesn't need them to be successful. |

I only pay extra for games when it's for something useful to me. Like ODST i paid the extra money to get the ODST 360 controller because 1 i needed another controller and 2 it looks cool. I will be doing it again with Monster Hunter Tri so i can get the Classic Controller Pro that comes with the special edition. So yeah spending extra money on games is only good when you get something useful to use in real life but not when it's something stupid like special armour. |

Agree. Though if it were reasonable, like a 2 dollar download, I wouldn't feel like a sucker for buying it, but it's not like your paying for additional "gameplay", your paying for something that does nothing except show people that you bought it. |
