Aye the SS=Super Saiyan is the simpler western term. Asian version SSJ= with the Supa-Saiya Jin can be broken down into Super (greater or above normal)- Saiyan (race name) and Jin is a word for Man (like human, not male/female impose related) So same difference as Timmoo has said

I wonder... Which acronym is more commonly used? SS or SSJ? I hear Super Sayian and Super Saya-jin used a lot, but, I can't really tell the difference between which acronym is more popular. Any ideas? O: (Prolonging the discussion, yay) |

I've been a member of the Dragonball community for about 10 years now, and it's my experience that even fans of the English dub (who would use the word 'Saiyan') tend to abbreviate it SSJ. Maybe because 'SS' brings to mind images of golden, glowing ships? Ahoy, thar be the SS Gokou!! :P In all seriousness, I rarely see 'SS' used, and even when I see people write it out 'Saiyan' rather than 'Saiyajin', they tend to go with SSJ. I say Saiyajin and SSJ due to habit (I also say Namekseijin), though from a translation perspective the 'jin' is irrelevant - in Japanese, that just denotes that they're a race of people. IE, The Saiya People, or The People of Saiya for a more archaic feel. Saiyan would be the best possible spelling, though not with the English dub's pronunciation - it's not 'say-an', but rather, 'sai-an', with an 'eye' sound. |

I hardly ever see 'SS' used. I use 'SSJ' myself. |

True. I would definitely say SSJ is used more. I use SSJ myself also SSJ,SSJ2,SSJ2,ASSJ,USSJ,SSJ4. SS,SS2,SS3,*****,USS,SS4- see the J just goes better with it, has more meaning. Despite the fact i say Saiyan..i dunno "SSJ" just seems to look and sound better than "SS". Don't you agree? |

Agreed for the SSJ. Generally, people who bother enough to abbreviate it know about saiya-jin. Not EVERYBODY--just a lot. |
Now, there's an idea. | |

People generally use "SSJ/SSjin", but when they type it out they use "Super Saiyan" instead of "Super Saiya-jin". Lol. |

Hmmm... I never really thought about it before, I picked up the SSJ abreviation from this site, and just kept using it cause I knew it stood for Super Saiyan. I personally don't say Super Saiyajin, It sounds weird... Not knocking!! Just my opinion! |

Well, my cousin and I used to look up all of our DBZ stuff online during the time when only the saiyan and namek sagas were aired. That was around 1998 or so. So, I referred to it as Super-Saiyajin just like it was referred to as online. In fact, I had to get used to not saying Chibi Trunks, Bebi, and Super Saiyajin as they came out. |
Now, there's an idea. | |
