Well well, it's that time gain. The winter Olympics have begun, and the USA have begun strongly getting 4 medals and leading the medal count (last I checked;) ).

I enjoy following the Olympic hockey tournament. It's one of the only times that international hockey has a tournam, ent showcasing the world's best players, playing for their countries. USA is showcasing ayounger team than usually, only 3 players are over 30. This team is built for hockey. There are talented teams like Russia or Canada that excel in offensive talents, therefore the Team USA countered with a team that although not as much talent on the offense, they will be a wall on defense. Miller, the goalie, is having a good season with Buffalo. I disagree with the US picking Drury though, he's not having a good season. They could have picked Gionta or Pominville instead.

As for the rest of the olympic games, who knows what I'll watch. I've seen some impressive performances from other countries such as Holland or Korea in speed skating. I wouldn't have thought they were Winter games material, but I guess I was wrong.

Anyone hyped about the American hockey team as well? Anyone else proud of their country's achivments or near misses! (like silver or bronze medals) lol

Please watch the one word posts Joshua! xD

I've been watching a bit of it actually, it's been rather good and fun to watch really. My mum suggested I should be a figure skater lol so don't know what to say about that though >_<

But I will probably continue to watch them, they are very cool. I'm not too fussed about the medals but am just watching it for the enjoyment. There are a lot of things they do which look like a lot of fun!

USA defeated Canada 5-3 in ice hockey the other day, and finished first in their group with a perfect record and 9 points. Ryan Miller played phenominal stopping 42 of 45 launched at him from some of the best players in the world. The defense played really well, and their veteran players showed off a little bit of experience, notably the 36 year oold Defensemen Brian Rafalski who netted the first 2 goals for Team USA.

With that USA gets a bye for the 1/16 round and is registered in the quarter finals, set to play the winner of the Belarus vs Switzerland game. Godspeed.

Other games today included

Switzerland - Belarus
Canada - Germany
Czech Republic - Latvia
Slovakia - Norway

meanwhile teams already qualified for the quarter finals are

USA
Russia
Finland
Sweden

The Ski jump and alpine skiing have been awesome to watch and I def. enjoy the speed skating going on.

I'm so excited about the Hockey Semi-finals coming up tomorrow.
Finland vs USA and Canada vs Slovakia
The Swiss-USA game was great! and Russia got it handed to them. I'm so sure Canada wants revenge so they wanna see the USA in the gold medal finals.
As for an update on who has won how many medals:
1) United States 32
2) Germany 26
3) Norway 19
4) Canada 16
5) Russia 13
6) Austria 12
7) South Korea 10
8) France 10

I just did top 8. I know Aus has 2 golds and 1 silver I think
There are 16 other countries that have won at least one medal or another.

The Swiss(8medals) have like 6 golds. China(9medals) and Sweden(8medals) have 4 golds

The USA destroyed Finland 6-1.. then lost to Canada in the finals, 3-2 in overtime. What a rush by Zach Parise to tie the game with about 30 seconds left in the game. They never had the lead but they can leave the tournament with their heads high along with a silver medal. To give it all you got against a team that is much more talented than you in probably every aspect is what makes sports so entertaining and motivating to watch.

What a fitting end to an Olympics on North American soil. Canada vs USA in the final event, Canada gets a record breaking number of gold medals while USA owns the podium with a record of medals overall.
