Resident Evil 4 was great but one game without zombies was enough. Resident Evil 5 should have had zombies but i hear its just a Resident Evil 4 clone with better graphics.

As for Nintendo owners being called casual gamers that's not true. Metroid and Zelda are as hardcore as it gets.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I see where you're coming from, but I personally feel that there are plenty of games out that are great, it's just a matter of opinion. I think that the majority of people that appreciate older games are those that grew up with them. I don't think 'new' gamers could jump into retro games like Tekken 2, the original Pokemon games and Mario games, because gaming has become much more complicated both graphically and plot-wise (there are obviously exceptions in both the modern and retro camps).

In general, most modern games are designed for the "casual" gamer these days. My example: Nintendo.

I bought a Wii simply to play a grand total of six games. Why? Because the rest of the games are aimed at toddlers and middle aged women! (Hmm, bad generalization.) But seriously, Wii Fit!? Wii Music!? Top Trumps Adventures!? Why would anyone buy virtual top trumps? People too lazy to lift paper up to their face? The only reason I still own my Wii is the Metroid and Zelda titles, and even then I'm still frightened of massive disappointment, because no doubt Nintendo will include some family friendly feature that'll balls it all up!
Nintendo consoles are just gimmick magnets now, like the unstoppable evolution of the iPod. Does your MP3 or glorified GameBoy need a camera in it? Apparently so. The DS, with it's "revolutionary", and often ignored by developers, touch screen should have changed my life! It didn't, because it's never used. The few games that fully utilize the touch screen are terrible, like Cooking Mama and the like.

But, in a more generalised way, I think there are some good series and games released, some developers still trying to cater for the hardcore gamer, but these are far too few. Most of the games are aimed at the brain dead public, who apparently will buy anything. The few good series like Bioshock and Mass Effect, and maybe The Darkness if they finally make a sequel, are brilliant, but not enough to actually justify the money I spent on my consoles. :(

It's a bit of a b****

Metroid Other M looks like the first of what may be many games to reach out to hardcore gammers in a modern era. there are many franchises that are just "Milking it until it dies" and for those titles, I say don't buy them anymore, just rent them or watch gameplay and reviews first to see if it's even worth the time.

by bying stupid clones and rehatches of games for retail value, we tell these lazy slobs they should keep doing the same crap over and over, rather than waiting a little longer and putting some more cash into the project to make a better game. it's not completely the gaming companies fault that many games fail to meet our expectations, it's partly our fault for leading them on that it would work out for them cause we buy their crap anyway :(

Yes, but not for that sole fact alone. That wouldn't make sense at all. Take for instance, the Digimon anime. It was great when I was a kid, but now I think it's absolutely horrible.

Oh, same with Barney and the Power Rangers, though I do think some of the concepts in the Power Rangers are pretty neat, to be fair. (ridiculous acting and cheesiness aside)

Actually, you know, I could probably go on with a huge list of things I liked when I was a kid that I don't like currently.

I like everything that I did as a kid....still like it a lot. I like Power Rangers and Digimon. xD But I never really liked any extremely kid-like shows anyhow....just all action stuff that like, 8* year olds would watch. And horror movies. Loving them since I was old enough to open my eyes.

For the record, I was still in diapers when I first started playing video games (SERIOUSLY - I have pics somewhere to prove it). I'll always love video games <3

I'll always love video games too.

I'm pissed off about how they're being used as mere tools of money with hardly any effort or creativity invested into them these days though. There are only about 4 games I'm looking forward to this entire year.

Alien VS Predator is one of them. I still need to take a look into Demon's Souls.

Aside from those two, I'm blank, but I'm sure I could think of some more if I looked into it.

I'm going to pick up Silent Hill Shattered Memories when I get the time, and I might buy a Wii for Punch Out and Super Mario Bros. Deluxe.

Not much else...

Remember Killer Instinct? Mario? Perfect Dark? Unreal Tournament? Zelda? Doom/Quake? Mortal Kombat? Megaman? Pokemon? RE4, perhaps? Any of these? Of course you do. Listen.

You'll never see them again. Never the way you wanted to. Accept it.
I remember most of those!!!

...I am sad now.

I didnt really think about the women thing you were saying. But the rest is true, and its not only in video games, you turn on the music channel on tv and all you see are hot girls dancing like snakes.

I like to think sometimes that I'm born in the wrong generation. I would of loved to live the 80s, and after that enjoy the classic games like bomberman, mario, donkey kong (going left to right on adventures), etc

What console are you getting Shattered Memories on? I'm guessing PS2? I plan on getting the Wii version

very true, I missed playing goldeneye with a group of friends.

A few months ago a friend dug out his N64, we couldn't play it more than 10 minutes
and it was one of the games that i'd spent a massive amount of time playing.
