"What's this? More wolves hungry for the blood of Almire?"

Well, back in my forum surfing days, I would often see a forum labeled "Archives" or "Gallery", or something related to those. Just for viewing propses. It prevented new memebrs from bumping really old topics and it was pretty neat too. For example. The Dragonball category could have all its regular forums, just, an Archives at the bottom. This would be a viewing only forum, so, members can't post in them. You could label the forum something like: "Old topics from the Dragonball category go here". Or something. Sure, it takes a lot of moving, espically with a popular forum, but, it's much more organaized in the end. What do you think? Edited by Bouncefox, Feb 2 2010, 09:25 PM.

I like the idea. Archives keep the forum organized. Members can search through the Archives whenever they want to as well. I think it could work. |

I kinda wish I could help with the moving, but, that's not my job. I feel bad for making others do it. Tim's right. It would be massive. D: |

Personally, I don't mind people bumping things if they bump it with relevent information. An archive as a sub-section in each Dragonball section would keep it more ordered. |

I'd be up for it. It'd be a lot work moving all the old topics but that's okay, once the current old ones got archived it'd be fairly easy to manage.

What about old topics in subforums already? Would those need their own subforums...? Wait. I'm confusing myself here... |

I'd say no since they are still a part of the same section. |

Makes sense. I'm not too sure how you create a subforum within a subforum. That would make it confusing, I believe, since, Members would have to search for such a sub-subforum. The point of Archives is to make them viewable by all, and only viewable. |

You could, but it's a bit of a pain. If people want to go hunting through the 50 odd pages and contribute something to an old topic which actually adds to it it's not too bad. But if it's read only they aren't able to add to it and we may end up with replica's of old topics just so people can add their points/ ~Tim |

*whacks self for not seeing this sooner* *rubs head* Anyway, I see your point. If it's a hot topic, sometimes, members are willing to talk about it again. Usually, not all of them would. But, that way, at least the member gets the idea out. What I'm saying is that it woud be easier if members could litteraly see where the Archives are, and flip through them. Yeah, subforums work, as long as they're visiable. But I'm still concerned in the topics already in subforums, which is why I think it would be easier to have them in a forum. But, then again, that's a lot more forums than we probably need... |

Could you give me an example about what you mean here?? What subforums are you talking about?? You think some of them should just be normal forums?? And in a way just the older pages are archives in a sense, but if we made them read-only archives people wouldn't have the option to respond if they wanted to. ~Tim |

Subforums such as Literature, Sports, and Deep Disscussion. Subforums such as those concern me, since, it would be diffucult to make a subforum within a subforum visiable. At least, that's how I would feel if I was a brand new member. As for normal forums, I say make one for the Dragonball section. And then, stuff all the topics from it in there. But, that's really unorganaized. That really works with a smaller forum, though. *should've thought of the size when mentioning forums, lols* So, maybe you could add Subforums to things such as Dragonball Versus, or Gaming. Basically, each forum has a subforum for Archives. But, it's only viewing. If the topic is years old, you wouldn't mind a new member recreating it, correct? If it's from like, 2004. As for people not responding to certain topics, it seems like that tends to bug other members, really. You don't need to post in a six-year old topic, do you? It would be better off being re-created. |

Hmm, it sounds like a good idea in theory but in application I think it may not help that much. People can just as easily go hunting through the pages that are there as an archive. Thanks for the suggestion though ![]() ~Tim Edited by Tim, Feb 6 2010, 06:09 AM.
