National Novel Writing Month.

Yeah, over november the official, worldwide event that was NaNoWriMo took place. The task was to write at least 50000 words of story over November, from scratch.

I failed miserably, with only 29000 words, but I just got the final e-mail from the staff and I was wondering if anyone here took part and succeeded where I fell. :D

One upon a time, bob was going to the shop and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and and

etc

The End

My submission.

I didn't take part, it would be full of run on sentances and errors, writting isn't my strong point. I could probably reach 50,000 or more words though, I just don't have the patients to.

I didn't do it this year but im thinking of doing it next year. I've got a friend who was doing it, that reminds me I should ask how they did!!

But congrats on getting that far!! Did you get as much done as you wanted storywise?? Or are you just part way through??

Well, I already have the full story planned out, just not penned down yet, so I suppose I didn't get as far as I would have wanted, but I am quite satisfied with how far I got considering how much I had to do. I may post up what I have once I've edited through it, since I just rushed through and didn't really bother with the little things like grammer and sentence structure lol.

So you had to write a novel from the start of November right through till the end of the month? And it had to be 50,000 words long from scratch?

Heck sounds like a really meaty task. I like to write myself but dont know if i could do something that big in such a short space of time.
Admirable that you got just over half way, what did you write about, themes like Sci-Fi, fantasy, Horror, romance, fact or fiction etc?

Do you know who did win (age, country etc) and do you know what their idea was?

Thanks. Well, it's actually an event that started in America and is spreading to Europe and Japan, so I don't actually know anyone that succeeded, just a handful of people on the Amazon forums where I learned about it. One of them was a 12 year old girl, who wrote roughly 53000 words, which has put quite the dent in my pride lol.

Well, I was novelising the plot to a story I made up for an RP I made ages ago, which is like a fan-fan-fiction RP, so it's quite hard to describe, but I suppose fantasy best describes it. I posted the prologue in the Show Off section a while ago, if anyone's interested.

Prologue

Here's hoping I'll get the rest posted up once it's been edited. :D

Awesome job man! I'd love to take part in that next year, although it's a ahell of a workload and if I'm at university or doing something else around that time then I'd probably pass on it. But props to you for getting so much done. 29,000 is a massive amount to do in such a short time, let alone 50,000.

Thanks :D

I dunno if I'll do it again next year... it's a good way to motivate yourself to actually write a story, but it is quite stressful lol. But I recomend trying it to everyone that likes to write; even if it's only for a week or for the full month, focusing on a story and challenging yourself to write so much is quite entertaining.

You're right about it being a good way of motivation. I'm always thinking of ideas for stories and wanting to write one of them up, but I never get round to it.

So this occurs at random months of the year so people cant prepare in advance? Do they post out an email to people letting them know when it starts (like on the 1st of the month) and end date?
Or do they have a site which announces it?

Do you get to read other peoples entries after its all said and done?

Pretty curious about this myself now? Theres no way i could write that much in a short space of time though. That 12 year old you mentioned who typed up a story some 53,000 long is an amazing little person :)

Yeh, the site itself has a big forum catagorised by genre where people can post their updates.

I honestly don't know about the month-picking or anything, I may be wrong, it may just be Novembers lol. I'll go check.

*Checks Wikipedia*

Yeah, it's just Novemeber annually. It used to be July though. That would have been so much easier...
