Alrite there people heres the thing... (Long one, if you can be bothered id appreciate it, cheers) My girlfriend and me where together at her house, enjoying each others company, talking lots and sharing things with each other, having a laugh, a good time. Its late. We are both tired having been up working and things, its early hours of the morning. My girl starts talking about how she should always wear glasses but doesnt cause she thinks it makes her look horrid. I disagree, saying 'your gorgeous no matter what you wear, its just you in glasses'. She starts talking about them (where, how, when, why etc) im listening and trying to reassure her she looks great. She then turns around and calls me by another fellas name, just normal and off the tongue, casual. I realise she just called me her ex's name, she does as well after a second. We stare at each other in muted silence for a bit longer. 'What? Greg whos... oh i see...that Greg.' She comes to me and gives me hug and says shes sorry, she didnt mean to, she wasnt even thinking of him, his name just popped in their, its me she wants (i met him once, she saw him for brief time). I stand there a little bemused, I dont say much back, shes looking into my chestm, she is quietly crying, trying to hide her tears, upset that i might not want her anymore. I dont know what to say, she keeps saying she didnt mean, 'I want you to believe me'. Im a stubborn, hard hearted sort of man usually with people i dont care for, im growing cold, armour is closing on me. Im trying to still show i care but barely (defense mechanism). I dont say anything, i just lightly rub her back an arms and kiss her forehead. Im puzzled, should i be annoyed or was it a simple mistake, maybe he said something about the glasses ages ago that made her bring his name up subconsciously? I leave (i have work early next day), ive went quiet, i dont know what to say. She asks if i will see speak to her again, i just nod and say 'Ok'. I still like her but feel awkward. Im not annoyed but i do think this is typical, life has a funny sense of humour, good nite up till that point. (Life tends to have a way of rubbing my face in it and reminding me that nothing is golden.) How would you people feel, should i be bothered, should i have said something to reassure her? How would you deal with it? |

I've personally made the mistake of calling a girl by the wrong name. I don't know why the two girls look nothing alike but i always mix their names. I wouldn't be too happy, kinda suspicious. My reaction would depend on the girl and how much I trust her. Since she went to the point of crying and saying sorry i would've let her know that i believed it was a mistake and then not bring up that incident again. |

Dude this kind of stuff happens. If you still like her man and nothings changed then don't let it get to you at all. She really seems like a really awesome girlfriend. I think she'll convince herself that it's okay and your okay as well. If anything, after that awkwardness it should honestly just make you two closer to each other. That's my assessment man. |

That happened to me once. My ex called me Jimmy.. whatever, it pissed me off so much, we were in the kitchen and I was passing her a glass of beer. She was a good ex, we broke up on good terms but still. I feel you brother. |

Thanks for responses people. I really like her, been seeing her for short time but ive known her for years (like in 'Hi... blah blah... Bye' sort of way), only recently really started to get to know her before we went out. She approached me. I was surprised cause i never thought it would happen. I think it was innocent in a way, calling me her exs name. Something i wont forget but harmless. Her ex was someone she had known for years as a mate, they got together for short time then she decided he wasnt for her. This was a while before me. We where together shopping a few days ago when he appeared and it was that awkward timing thing, she told me he was trying to talk to her again (by text) but she was with me now but hadnt mentioned it to him. None of his business kind of thing. She had that 'Oh crap not him' sort of response with a smile, shes a really chatty, fun person so has time for everyone (go figure im the opposite ). I was curious and later asked about him cause of the way she reacted. She told me about them being together. Was nothing serious. I left it alone. I trusted her. I guess it was just cause we had spoke about it the day before and she might have thought it bothered me, so his name was on her mind. Maybe? I never thought about that side of things 'Rebel X', how this sort of thing could bring us closer together. My girl was really upset about it, i didnt do much to maker her feel better as i just seemed to disconnect myself from the situation. I didnt want to rage like a child or grovel like a pup. I needed to think it through. When i talk with her about it (now that ive had time to think it over and take in your responses), im sure she will be happy as she seems really keen and i still like her. If it does bring us closer then it will be a good thing. Im not a petty man but like 'SS4' said she could have said it in a much more intimate circumstance which would have really gutted me. In this case it was a simple mistake in a normal circumstance. Cheers again people.

You know sometimes a girl is with someone so long the only life experiences she's has is with that person so she compare to the way you do things as to they way her ex had. It's not that she was thinking of how good he was or even going back to him just that she had him in her mind means nothing you should be concered with. Sounds like she loves you mate keep up the good work. |

I spoke to my girl and yeah after i had a sleep on it and thought things over and read the advice and comments on here i felt more settled. She confirmed what i thought, she only brought his name up because she wore the glasses often round him so it reminded her of him, so was accidental. Harmless and something i wasnt going to eat away at me and ruin what i have with her. I was a bit off when i first saw her though, like i was pulling back a little so i was more bothered than i thought. After a little talk, she went to kiss me and i sub-consciously turned my head to the side so she kissed my cheek, i only realised just as i did it. Was a strange reaction. Being a hardy bugger is a pain sometimes .We spoke some more and after we started laughing and getting on i warmed to her again and relaxed and brought up what i did 10 mins before (turning away thing), acknowledging how i acted, she said she understood. I reassured her i was ok now and trusted her and really did like her, she seemed really happy. She kept apoligising for crying as well the night before (she sees it as a sign of weakness). I said it was ok, it made her more loveable (even if i was being cold at the time). She then said usually with other guys she wouldnt cry at all, just tell them to get over it or its over. Wow She sees me as being someone more important and didnt want to lose me, she feels like she is really fallen for me. Heck knows why, but im happy to be with her and grateful to be granted her company. Again thanks people and 'dudeguy1992', you are the man ![]() |
