IP Addresses Linking to Accounts; Help me understand this.

I was having a conversation with somebody earlier about IP addresses and how they connect with any online accounts. Email addresses, forum accounts, Youtube accounts, etc. I got pretty curious about some things and I'm here to ask a few questions to any computer literate person that wants to respond.

A little over a year ago, every account I used online was hacked. Everything was completely hacked, advertised, and deleted. Now, of course this is just a common thing that happens to a lot of people, but there's something I became very curious about recently as I was pondering.

It's not difficult to predict the various ways a password can be stolen, but there's definitely something I've been left scratching my head over when it comes to this old incident. Taking a look back, I notice that literally -every- single account I had was hacked and deleted. How could this be? Sure, it could all link back to my email address, right? Assuming that every account registered was email activated, that is. However, I noticed that many of these accounts were very abstract, and were in fact not linked to any other accounts or email addresses of mine at all.

You see, I recall a certain taunt I received from these hackers. Whatever reason they had to do this, I'm not sure, but they were certainly vocal. Carelessly vocal, even. According to them, my IP address had a lot to do with this, and it wasn't required to steal my passwords either. The only reason they needed it was to track down the various accounts I used on any sites I visited online.

Having said that, my question to anybody out there is... How in the hell can somebody link an IP address to browser history or any sort of account information?

My accounts were discovered via IP address information. Does anybody know anything about this, or how this is possible?
