Mario in my eyes has been a huge success even with all the "unfair" sequels as you call it. It is hard to keep a game to be exactly how it was when it first came out when going to new platforms and all. I personally thought Super Mario Galaxy was right up there with Mario 64. Every year there is a new generation of gamers and you can't keep striking lightning with making the game exactly the way it was before with just slightly tweaked Levels and villains. Look at shows and music for example. How many cartoons do you still see out today that came out 15 years ago, ten years ago? Not that many it's hard to keep something with that classic nostalgic feel to it and do right by gamers today. That fact that he is still the face of Ninentdo products and all shows that Ninentdo doesn't just switch a few levels around and slap a new name on it like most games do.

1st of all... 1st of all, ZERO, is the number of times made a fair sequal which was modeled after the Mario 64 engine. Why don't they? It will strike lightning, sureley gamers will prefer that over a kart game or a tennis game.

2nd of all, many games make a trilogy or even more! by tweaking levels and villains. Many succesful games to. the 8bit Mario games, Zelda, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy! That's why it's called a sequal!

Why hasn't Kotetsu posted again? How do you compare this:

One's a true 360 degree platformer... the other is a game based on a turn system.

the turn based system is fun, but not at all right for a sequel, but fortunately it isn't the sequel to the 64 one. I suppose Sunshine is, with Galaxy being it's sequel. your right, about keeping the traditional elements of gameplay from Mario 64, and yet at the same time, Mario Galaxy does alot of things right as a game, it just doesn't have all the traditional elements introduced in mario 64. this is one of nintendo's biggest problems ever, and why I pretty much hate them most the time. "INCONSISTANCIES IN GAMEPLAY WITHIN A FRANCHISE". it's like they can't make up their mind on a specific formula for a franchise. the formula nintendo normally uses, instead of a solid gameplay engine, is "watered down, non complex, repedetive story" like we see in so many of there franchises. in more recent years, they have tried changing the story more between sequals, for veriety, however they still completely change the gameplay with it, perhaps because they are unsure of whether or not people will like the few big changes they are implamenting in it, so changing gameplay and story arc makes it feel like it's not a direct sequal, so nintendo fans won't get mad and leave (unless they are like me and don't want to put up with half hearted games that should have continued a series or just left it alone.)

it's like how sometimes, a game developer will try something new with a title that hasn't been done before, but they don't want to invest to much time or money into the idea, cause they are unsure of it's success allready.....thats when we get these stupid spin off games, like "Castlevania Judgement" or "Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals" or even crap like half of the "*blankety* *blank* Racing" games out there.....we can tell without even pick'n 'em up sometimes that they are just a waist of time, so my question is, why make a game that unsure of it'self in the first place? cause I guess some knucklehead out there is still gonna buy it cause they are just such a die hard of the franchise. I'm a sucker for Castlevania, but I don't want anything to do with Castlevania Judgement, and I am dissapointed Konami even considered making a game that stupid, they should have invested more in it, and made it more of a next gen fighting game, rather than a power stone parody.
