In the Dream Match IF Saga, Kid Goku yells out that he doesn't fight girls when Arale shows up for a fight. Is this the same Goku who laid out Lunch with a single kick, who spent his first date with Chichi wailing on her, and gave Arale the send-off to compete in the Tenka'ichi Budokai? It's like Goku got replaced by Ranma or something. The Goku I know would probably visit Penguin Village with the express purpose of challenging Arale to see who's stronger. Since I've just finished a fic where Goku bonds with Arale via a series of intense training exercises (i.e. beating her into the ground with Nyoibo), characterization is a concern for me. But how can I stay in character when the characters themselves are altered from medium to medium? I guess it's probably no big deal; I've taken bigger liberties with characters in my own stories, and it is an IF saga. Maybe I should take this as a go-ahead to continue with my own What If ideas, like the one where Goku is a Taopaipai-style assassin and has a scythe blade fitted onto Nyoibo. |

Well, you answered your topic in your post. It is a WHAT IF saga. Not even the actual series are 100% accurate, let alone a WHAT IF saga in a DBZ game. But yeah, as far as I'm concerned, Goku didn't care at all if he was fighting a woman or a man, everybody was equal to him. He wouldn't even be able to tell the difference between a man and a woman when he was younger ahah. |

Yeah, I guess I did sort of answer my own question, but I wanted a second opinion. Over the years, there's been so many different character interpretations that you just have to pick one of them as your starting point. Yamcha seems to oscillate between being a sardonic bad boy with huge quirks to an affable average joe. When I wrote his character in my latest fanfic, I played up the quirky bad boy persona, which I think evokes the time in Dragon Ball when he was a major character, and also allows Pu'ar to play off him. |
