The player was Koumas and/or Arshavin and Koumas went from being injured to retired from international football so I was pretty annoyed although the game was fantastic, Russia look good, Arshavin was class (although his fitness is still questionable) and they've got another4-5 quality players. I got tickets to all the home qualifying games for Wales, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it (My Cousin got a deal that meant he has 5 tickets to each home qualifier and he always offers me one). And England had a damn good performance, now that Wales and Scotland are out, i'll be supporting England and perhaps Northern ireland if they make it. |

What did you all think of the Adebayor controversy on Saturday? The stamp was disgusting, you can clearly see he is looking at Van Persie's face when he makes contact and that deserves the 3-game ban and could have justified more. However I personally don't feel that his celebration was as bad as many people view it. Firstly, the Arsenal fans treated him horribly at the game with sick chants. I know this is to be expected, but how is it that the fans get off completely free yet Adebayor gets massive stick for 'sticking it' to the fans when he scored the goal. Sure he ran 90 yards to do it, but it was heat of the moment. He had a massive emotional build-up which included the mistreatment of him whilst at Arsenal and during the game. Then there was the fact that every Arsenal player seemed to attampt to hack him down without regard for the ball. Yes the stewards and police had a hell of a job holding back the Arsenal fans, but maybe we should take a look at the fans who appeared to be animals rather than a player getting caught up in the heat of the moment. |

I laughed when he ran up to the Arsenal fans but him stamping on Van Persie is only funny from the fact he plays for Arsenal j/k It's not acceptable, especially seeing as Adebayor plays for Man City of all people. It makes me sick just thinking he plays in the same city as my club >_> I would also like to point out Paul Scholes' red card.... Oh Paul, you never change xD Edited by Bex, Sep 16 2009, 01:53 PM.

The stamp was disgusting. As an Arsenal fan, I can honestly say imo there was nothing wrong with his celebration, it was stupid but he got a lot of stick from the fans and it was his way of getting his own back. I agree about the fans getting away with it while he gets punished. I think the problem with the celebration is the fact there are some real idiots at football games who start riots and violence and although not really his fault, punishing the players is one way to stop it even though it isn't fair. Paul Scholes never could tackle :P I heard a theory on the radio that he actually knows exactly what he's doing which made me laugh. I guess you're right Light. It's a lot easier to punish the player than the fans. I mean how do you punish the fans. You can't pick out all the troublemakers and to punish the club is wrong because how can they control the chants and actions of the fans. |

Paul Scholes is great BECAUSE he tackles that way. Of course he knows what he's doing XD He redeemed himself by scoring the other night. |

A bit late, but what a great match the Manchester derby was on Sunday. I listened to it on the radio and it was enthralling, edge of the bed stuff (I was sitting on my bed). Yes there was bad defending, extremely bad, but there was some good attacking on display. The whole extra time debate is hypocritical. Manchester City had the exact same amount of time to snatch victory as United did and wouldn't have been complaining if they had won, and likewise the United fans wouldn't be brushing it aside and justifying it if they lost. But the main point is that the stadium announcer always states that "there will be a MINIMUM of (blank) minutes added time" with minimum being the key word. Substitutions and goal celebrations both result in more added time, both of which happened after the added time was announced. Chelsea also showed that they are the favourites to win the league with a 3-nil win over Tottenham. People have argued that Chelsea's good start has been down to their 'easy' start, but they passed their first test with flying colours. |

Sorry to double-post, but it's been a few months now. We're coming up to the half-way period in the season and the table is starting to take shape and we're beginning to get an idea of where each team is at. As a Liverpool fan I am extremely dissapointed with the way we've been playing. We expected to be fighting for the title but now we're fighting for our place in the top four. Benitez clearly needs to implement a new system as it's obviously not working for us at the moment. Our defence, which in previous years has been one of or arguably the best in the league, has looked very suspect. We need our centre backs to step up because I believe that Carragher, Agger and Skrtel are all top quality. Also we need to start playing with two up front. It's clear that N'gog isn't mature enough to play on his own in attack and he isn't getting the support he needs from the midfield. If he had a partner, somebody like Kuyt, who could work hard and win the ball in close proximity then it takes some of the burden off of him. It also makes it easier for him to find space. He is a good striker, but a young one. When Torres and Gerrard are injured or not completely fit, we need to alter our system because it's clear that those two are the key factors in it working. One positive is that we're not far off the top four and if we can put together a string of good performances and wins then considering how close the league has proven to be, I believe that we're right back in it Anyway enough about Liverpool. What do you think of the 'Big Four Pretenders' i.e Man City, Tottenham and Aston Villa? The relegation battle's also looking like a good one. I'd like them to stay up, but Portsmouth look to be in all sorts of trouble. |

Another bad weekend for liverpool, and Man uniteds defensive troubles were exposed. I watched the Arsenal game and was happy enough, Song looked better than he has recently. Diaby Song Denilson and Nasri coped fine without Fabregas, I particularily liked nasri's two touch football with Denilson and Diaby, which kept opening gaps for Eduardo. I thought Silvestre was really unlucky with the penalty but it was poorly taken so Almunia did well and kept it out. Silvestre was still pretty poor even if he's playing out of position. If Diaby keeps maturing they'll have a real presence alongside Song in midfield, but Diaby has more of an offensive mindset than Song which I think will be beneficial for the team. |

The Giants are falling this week. Man U lost a blowout to Fulham, 0-3. Liverpool got shutout by the last place Portsmouth. Chelsea narrowly outplayed low league West Ham to a 1-1 draw. |

tbh I thought Chelsea should have lost, they got a penalty which in my opinion should never have been given and Carvalhio should have conceeded a penalty as well as Cole. |

Speaking of the giants falling, Juventus lost to last place Catania in Serie A, they've been on a bad loosing streak since beating Inter. I was talking with my friend the other day.. do you think that in the next generation the top 4 of England will be different than it was for the past generation, and same for other teams in Europe. Or is this just a bad year for greatly sponsored teams |
