Well I want to start working out every day so that I can get fit, as well as gain muscle weight (I need to gain weight as it is, I'm classified as underweight, but not by much) well I want to try out for College Baseball but yeah I need to get stronger and gain weight. I know pretty much good workouts I can do from home without need a Gym. Sit ups, Push ups, jogging, etc.. What I need advice on is food. I don't expect not to from time to time not to eat fast food, I believe eating fast food like BK or Mcdonald's is not bet unless you start over doing it. I know not to eat many sweets, fast food and etc... I know that. So what I want to know are which foods should I definitely be eating almost if not everyday to help me stay fit? |

Try to just focus on getting a balanced diet. Eat lots of fruits and veggies for their nutrients but also make sure you are getting enough lean meats (protein! VERY important, especially to build muscle post workout) and carbs (for energy). Another good thing to do: take a multivitamin. Just in case you can't always eat balanced, you can get the fuel you need to push through workouts. Another good thing to try is to eat a small meal every three hours. It keeps your metabolism going and saves your body from crashing. Eat a good breakfast in the morning whether it's a full out hot meal or cereal, a midmorning snack (fruit, veggies, or energy/protein bar), lunch in the middle of the day, mid afternoon snack, and dinner at night. Ultimately, the goal is balance. Fast food and sweets won't kill you, just try to limit what you can. Eat healthy meals as often as you can. Try to eat colorful food because they have more nutrients and antioxidants. Good luck! Once you start eating healthy, it'll become a habit. |

No problem at all! Let me know if you have any questions about anything fitness or diet related. How about raw vegetables? For example, I don't like cooked carrots very much, but I like raw carrots (baby carrots in particular). I like raw celery and cucumbers as well. If you don't like raw, you could try roasting them in the oven (it brings out the flavors and sweetness), grilling, or sauteing them in olive oil and garlic/fresh herbs/your favorite seasoning. Another thing about milk, GREAT post workout drink. It helps fill your body up with protein to start building muscle. |

Raw yeah, I do like lettuce though I ussualy put dressing on it but I have no idea if dressingis not that good but I could probabbly eat it without dressing as well as for carrots yeah I used to eat raw carrots all the time. Brocolli I hear its really good Im not really a fan of it but I've started eating some lately. I'll end up getting used to it eventually. And you just gave me another helpful advice I didn't know milk was great for after workouts, thanks for pointing that out. What would milk recommendation be? 1% or whole? (I dont like the other milk skim or whatever it is lol) Edited by -Zero-, Aug 13 2009, 05:02 PM.

Lettuce will do nothing for you son. you need to eat good healthy dark green veg like sprouts, broccolli and peas as they give your body the energy and iron. Eat lots of red meat for muscle development and white meats like chicken and fish too. Whatever you like. Your not a vegetarian so you have plenty of quicker easier things to eat that will develop your body faster. Drink plenty of fluids as well (water and juice, sugar free stuff and nothing fizzy like coke as this will just give you a quick fix anf ruin your teeth ), milk is good after a work out, probably the reall stuff is best or at least the one that isnt like water. Eat consistently throught the day and carry on through out the week. Maintaining important balance. Vary the meals so you dont get bored. Eat pasta for the carbs and watch on the salt intake (i never put any extra into any of my food just eat it with whats already supplied). Eating things like sweets and cake is ok as long as you only eat in low quantities, make it like a friday night treat so your body and mind has something to look forward to. A fun reward. Dont over train either, every other day or at least twice a week is fine for an hour a time. Dont pressure yourself to do too much at the start or you may get discouraged, build it up. Make sure you give yourself good rest periods to give your body time to recover and heal and build itself back stronger than before. |

Thanks, I was thinking that I'll probably start drinking more orange juice than I do now, but the kind that's made from the orange, because of the vitamin C. I know not to overdo the work outs haha, I know that I'm in out of shape so from the first few weeks I probably won't be able to jog for too long but I'll eventually start getting used to it and build more endurance. I was also researching the hours of sleep recommended and that's 9. That's going to be the biggest change I'm gonna have to make since I have a hard time falling asleep at night but thanks for the help also |

Eat a lot of lean meat if you want some size. Chicken, tuna etc. Maybe some protein powder if you'd like. Some guys that want to bulk up drink it like 3-4 times a day. I'd reccomend it just after a workout. Really good if you mix it with milk and have some fruit after. Good thing about powders is that they'll digest quicker than normal foods. Which is great after a workout because foods will digest slowly since your blood will be rushing to parts of your body that you worked out. Also if you want to gain weight make sure you don't do too much cardio. Don't get me wrong, cardio is great, but when you push it to an extent your body burns muscle for energy. I find eating your greens is of up most importance, I mean i do 15+ pushups a day, Over the past month i could feel a bif difference, It also helps if you can eat meat about 3 times a week. Keep the protein levels up. |

No, anybody who says the bolded part has no experience or any idea what they're talking about. You absolutley need a gym to bulk up. Whether it's at home or elsewhere. Bench press, Dumbells, machines, pressure curls. The benefits of gaining mass and pumping muscle are not availble without the gym. If you're serious about this I could give you a great program. I know some people that make a living out of this, and they love it. They're trainers, so it's all good. Btw I'm going to have to interupt BattleMetal. Don't eat alot of red meats. if any reds, stick to Beef, or steak. Not both, and don't eat to much of it because red meat will just kill you in the long haul. Also eat canned Tuna in moderation, there's mercury in it, whch is not very good for yourself. And drink alot of skimmed milk, buy yourself 2 cartons per week and drink them reapedetley. Skimmed milk has almost no fat and 9gs of protein with a decent number of calories to back you up. Although milk gets you constipated therefore in order to not get constipated, and drink all the milk you want, your going to have to dramatically raise your dark green veggie count. Trust me, it helps. *Oh and if your going to use suppliments, train hard. Therefore I doubt you're ready for those since you implied you don't intend on training hard yet. Don't take suppliments and decide not to train. You're going to ***** urself up so bad. Edited by Mc Esse, Aug 24 2009, 02:48 AM.

Eat once every three hours in small portions to keep your metabolism up. Calorie count down, carb count up. Stay active. Sprints, jogs, walks, aerobics, and light weight-lifting. Repetition over maxing, but go at a hard pace. Try to put some stretches in there if you're interested. Keep hydrated. Do NOT get lazy once you start a routine. Motivate yourself, follow those steps, and I see things working out for you. Try your hardest. It's not just about repetition, it's about going until you feel like you can't go any farther. You may want to try a legal performance enhancing supplement. Try N.O. Xplode. It will keep you going. It gives you energy, and keeps oxygen supplied to your muscles. As for dieting, well. Obviously you can't put crap in your body. No candy, cake, or junk. Eat healthy things in small portions every three hours. Try some stomach exercises if you want to. Your main focus is to stay motivated and avoid laziness. |

Push ups and sit ups will have to do for now, they \may not be as effective but they have affect. Some of us don't have the luxury to have a gym close around or the money to be buying bench presses. Perhaps what I can do is buy some cheap small weights, but thats all. Im thinking I might go on protein shakes. Im not a big fan of taking supplements, protein is fine but start going further I don't want to take other supplements. I'm also gonna go on multivitamin one a day for teens to make sure I started getting healthier as well. |

Okay, so let me get it right. You want to BULK up? Baseball, bulk up, and be stronger. Then you're going to pack on some weight and hit the weights hard. You -will- need sprints and jogs though. That's nothing that you're going to stand there and disagree with. You need to move your body. Lifting weights isn't enough. |

lol dumbells and benches are nice to have, but you don't HAVE to have them. Think about it, what are they anyways? Weights. If you can't afford dumbells and don't want to go to the gym, be resourceful and use things around your house. Water gallon jugs with water in it. When you get stronger, maybe add sand or gravel until it's a weight you desire. It has a nice handle so you can do a lot of workouts with it. |

I want to gain weight and strength at the same time stay porportional with my height, Im not really like those bulk up freaks to begin with I just need a little more strength thats it, Im not going for world's strongest man, I'm going for baseball which most of it relies on skill of course you need some strength as well but skill is a very important part, yes I want to be fit and have some muscles but I dont have to be big either just enough that I am not classified as underweight |
