Anybody watch fights? Despite the fact that the UFC is engulfing the big four boxing bodies, and despite one of the pissiest heavyweight generations ever I still enjoy watching the sport, as well as training myself. I never took training seriously, although when I train I train.

Topic open for discussion, anything, let's make this topic go all the way.

-Favorite Boxers
-Favorite Fight
-Up and coming boxers
-Upcoming Events
-Predictions
-How do the boxing bodies compete with UFC's resurgence.

etc.

I only watch boxing when I was young. I couldn't tell you fav fight or anything like that. I haven't even tried to keep up with the current New fighting industries like UFC.

I do know that not to long ago Vernon Forrest died. He was a pretty good pro.

Arturo Gatti passed away just recently. He was a favorite of mine, and Gatti/Ward 1 was the best fight I've ever seen. The second best was Gatti/Ward 3, and the third best was Gatti/Ward 2.

Out of current boxers I like Kelly Pavlik and Jermain Taylor.

Compared to boxing, UFC is a *****-fest. Sure it's entertaining, but after a while of watching the fighters brawl to the floor, I don't see much of their style put to good use anyways. Though boxing is boxing, I don't see why you can't call it the pinacle of sports! MMA is throwing guys in a cage for 15 minutes at most, like animals hah. Other than Mixed Martial Arts and Hockey  , I don't know what other sport can leave you bruised and battered in the eyes.

Boxing has lost two former champs in the past month. Vernon Forest and Arturo Gatti. both were known outside the ring as gentlemen respected by their communities, yet it was the darknes of a murder that killed them both.

R.I.P

I watched a brief condolence clip which Floyd Mayweather sent out to Gatti's family, it almost made me cry :'( .

Current fav btw is: Paulie Malignaggi, i'll cheer for him until he retires. He's from Brooklyn, like Mike Tyson, lol. He's fighting Juan Diaz soon. first fight since loosing to Hatton.

Antonio Margarito was a favourite of mine based on his style and incredible chin. I was greatly disheartened when i heard that he was cheating, using hardened wraps in his fight with Shane Mosley (sp).

Aside from that i liked the guys personality in the ring, a humble agressive fighter who loved his people. The way he would take big bombs and just smile in acknowledgement of the attack, nodding at his opponent and just plough on, pressuring his opponent with costant hooks (outside and inside), uppercuts and straight punches to head and body.

Arturro Gatti cause i can strongly relate to the way he fights. Ive seen parts of his wars (Youtube) with Ward. Gatti has a massive heart. When he goes down with that body shot, a left into the liver (Owee) and you can see him clearly in agony, he gets up and survives the onslaught from Ward and actually fights back harder. True grit and heart. Amazing

Manni Pacquio became a major favourite of mine when i saw his rematch with Manuel Marquez. I had never seen either man box before but this fight was recommended. I was amazed, a quick, speedy boxer who was aggressive and smart and punished his opponent with pressuring punch combos and darted out of the way. Brilliant. I thought that Manuel won the fight to be honest but Pac-Man was still great to watch. Been watching his fights ever since.

Your favorite boxer is Paulie Malignaggi!? LOL That is awesome. Don't mess with that guy's hair.

Ok i really disliked Malignaggi when i saw him. His attitude was energetic and refreshing but at the same time incredibly annoying, like he lived on another planet where he is emperor. Guy has a massive ego but it is different.
Hated it when he getting pysked up in his corner when the announcer is going to call his name and his corner men are shouting at him while he rolls and beats his arms, shaking from side to side, 'Give it to him Paulie! Give to him Paulie!'. I willed Cotto to smash his face.

Aside from that though the guy has amazing hand speed and has an incredible heart, the Magic Man. The guy just will not go down and is tremendously fit, he proves this with Miguel Cotto and Ricky Hatton, both men gave Paulie a hellish beating but he fought on (or at least he didnt quit of his own accord).

If the guy didnt have such brittle hands he would be something special. When he flicks those punishing fast jabs into Hattons face in the first round you can see the Hitman cant keep up and is being hurt. That is until round when Hatton lands a right cross and Paulie sees stars for the next 9 rounds. He gets rattled several times but hangs in there until the corner pull him out, some will power, still believing you have a chance when your getting pummeled.

That's Malignaggi's problem, his glass hands. Although he makes up for it with a rather tough 'beard'. I don't think I've ever seen him knocked down, let alone being KO'd. Again, the problem is he only has 5 KOs in his career. 3 which came from his first 3 fights!

I look at Gatti's career with a little skepticism. I did not like the way he ended it. Sure he had 2 belts, but it always bothered me the fact that he lost 5 of his last 6 fights, and got beyond pummeled when he would fight the best fighters of his generation. Going down to De La Hoya in 5, and being wrecked by Mayweather in 6.

The 140 division is just about the hottest it's been in the past decade. Mayweather's back, De La Hoya wants a rematch, the British have a world class boxer, and Pacquaio is a new name. Malignaggi is still 27, therefore maybe one day he may get a a worthier shot. Beating Lovemore N'dou was great but it wasn't special.

By the way who heard what Mayweather said about white people boxing. He said something along the lines of
"White people needed a sport to dominate so they founded UFC. There have not been dominant white boxers in the sport of boxing in today's age" Floyd Mayweather.
Alright, he must have completley forgotten about the Klitchko brothers domination of the heavyweight divisions!

Yeah, and I guess he forgot about Calzaghe and Pavlik too. In case he hasn't noticed, the majority of the white population are doing MANY other things. It would just be plain awkward for white people to be good at every single thing on the planet, wouldn't it? Eh, oh well. I always hated the prick. Let him run his mouth.

As for Gatti, yeah, I know he wasn't the greatest fighter. I'll be damned if he wasn't the greatest entertainer though. When I watch boxing, I'm obviously looking forward to some entertainment. The Real Blood and Guts Warrior delivers.

Cotto vs Paquiao soon. I hope Cotto beats this guy man. So far, no one gave him a good welcome to big leagues. I mean come on.. they're fighting at 145 lbs! Pacqciao was a bantamweight not long ago!!! How does he even carry his own weight, after gaining, what? 30 lbs or more within 12 months!

Btw, look at the complete domination of white boxers in the heavyweight divisions... The HEAVYWEIGHT divisions. how rare is that!? Ha, all the current champs are white!

Man, what was Mayweather talking about! I've always respected his opinions until now. It's either jealousy or stupidity!

Who saw the Diaz-Malignaggi fight? It was another disgrace to the sport of boxing. Both men were cut open by the 2nd round, Diaz won on points, despite the fact that Malignaggi's much greater strength carried the fight from the 3rd round onwards. It was 12 rounds of Paulie's school of jabs. Paulie won the fight, but Diaz won the match. That's the 3rd time I see this garbage in boxing this year, during a high profile card. and 2nd that it's the hometown hero that gets the decision, despite being brutally outclassed.

I missed this fight. I remember this, read about it in Boxing News/ Monthly.

I watched the Youtube vid you sent of the post-fight interview, Esse.
Man hes got some energy to be that fired up, mind you ive been the same, expecially after ive been robbed after a fight, but ive never done 12 rounds, 3 mins a time so yeah, hes got amazing stamina.

Gotta respect the guy for what he said about Diaz, he didnt hate the player he just hated the game. Gave him total respect and praised him for his ability, very fair man, good to see.

Its a real shame when this happens, really crappy when its in the pro games just as badly as in the amateurs. Sad man.

Man me and my friends were watching this at my house the other day. The roof was about to come off with all our yelling and our neighbours were getting pissed off. We had thought that Malignaggi won, then when the outcome was finalized I picked up my beer and almost broke my window. Good thing it smashed the wall. My friend kicked my table and broke it but I didn't give a *****.

Damn kid, Malignaggi has the skills of a champion.. but he's missing the knockout PUNCH.

Like we have said before its those damn 'glass' hands of his. Guy has a chin and a big heart to rival any champion and has amazing hand speed.

Real shame. Aside from his cockiness i really like the guy as he speaks a lot of sense and says it as it is and has impressive skills as a boxer.

I don't like his attitude and he obviously had one pretty darn awful interview, but as for the fight, yeah it seemed a little closer than the judges called it. I still think Diaz laid it on him pretty good though. The power punches were the difference maker.
