The third ones got me excited, playing in snow is always fun. Especially when it comes down to fighting in it. |

Jodecideion has some videos of the first few levels of the import, where he comments on the gameplay. Both Jodecideion and the IGN preview say that all combat is mapped to the A Button, as sort of a "pick up and play" device. I've seen games that simplify controls in an attempt to appeal to a younger demographic or to people who don't regularly play videogames, where a lot of different moves are done randomly and automatically (Kirby Air Ride, some of the Travelers Tales Lego games) but it's usually a mistake. Kids aren't so stupid that they can't deal with multiple buttons, and a game that essentially plays itself doesn't draw in the player. Anyway, this is what Jodecideion and IGN say, but upon observing the video, I have my doubts that this is the complete truth. Goku has been shown starting his combos with a punch, a thrust of Nyoibo, or a Nyoibo pop-up move. It doesn't make sense for all these actions to happen randomly with any ol' tap of the A button, especially for a game based on Dragon Ball and a game made specifically for the Wii. I wonder if they're glossing over some facets of the gameplay mechanisms; that happens often enough in reviews I read. In any case, the levels look good; a lot of rich settings and a mix of baddies, as opposed to a DBZ game, where it's just you, an empty field, and Frieza. We're spending an awful lot of time in the area around Colonel Silver's base through, going from Level 1-1 to 1-2 like it's a Mario game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8EO2KEi9TU Edited by RisanF, Jul 28 2009, 02:42 PM.

New information about Dragon Ball: RoKP is trickling in as we get closer to the American release date. ...guess what purple-haired crossover character is making an appearance in Versus Mode? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTckupjOR1Y Apparently, you have to beat every level with an S ranking in order to get her. She's always treated like a rare, expensive delicacy, as far a Dragon Ball games go. I'm wondering if the Dragon Ball: RoKP theme song, "Power of Dreamer", will make it into the US released. I mean, it's not the classic "Makafushigi Adventure", but it has that same cheery, Shonen flair that Dragon Ball songs are known for. I wonder if it could even be Hiroki Takahashi singing "Power of Dreamer"... Edited by RisanF, Oct 16 2009, 07:26 AM.

A few brief thoughts on the game: I'm pleased to note that they did a pretty good localization of RoKP. When it comes to games like this that don't get much attention from the mainstream media, you never know what to expect. But they got all the FUNi U.S. actors to do their dub voices. and they kept in the opening theme, "Power of Dreamer." And if you don't like Stephanie Nadolny, you can switch over to Japanese voices (and trust me, you'll be hearing a lot of Steph in this game) The gameplay...isn't all that I hoped for it to be (want more control over Nyoibo, damn it!), but it's just complicated enough as to not feel like a Tiger electronics game. The gameplay is all on one track and harkens back to old school brawlers, so there's no need to screw around with a finicky camera, unlike a certain ninja series which will remain nameless. Speaking of ninjas, they've embellished Murasaki's lair with more rivers and houses, as well as the entirety of Muscle Tower, which is now a sprawling high-tech fortress. Murasaki himself seems less goofy than he was in the Dragon Ball series, as he now has fire and water jutsus to hurl at you. The game's difficulty can be a little cutthroat, especially if you trying to get S rankings on all stages. So if you want Arale-chan for versus mode, you're gonna have to work for her. Anyhow, give RoKP a shot. It's $10 cheaper than the average Wii game, so it's a pretty good deal. Edited by RisanF, Oct 22 2009, 01:26 AM.

I gave up. I couldn't score an S ranking on all stages, so I downloaded a 100% save file onto an SD Card and uploaded it to my Wii so I could play as Arale. On the other hand, Arale has a good English VA. Says "Hoyo" and everything. Revenge of King Piccolo has really good music. The theme for Grandpa Gohan sounds like something out of a Mystical Ninja/Goemon game. |
