These two versions of Goku are obviously different for those of you who have seen both versions. Which one do you prefer? I can't choose. I first saw DBZ in English so I have an attachment to the happy-go-lucky, silly, and all too gentle Goku. In Japanese, though he's still free-spirited, he seemed to be more logical but kind of animal-like, rather than just silly. I love them both. Thoughts? |

I hate how Goku sounds like a girl in Japanese so I have to go with English. hah. |

I also can't stand the way Goku sounds in the Japanese version. I just picture some... child, having a temper tantrum as he talks. |

Yeah i cant stand to listen to the japanese version of most of the voices. Gokus is easily the worst, i saw a brief clip from Fusion Reborn with Goku screaming as he goes SS3. It was like listening to an old lady holler as someone had just stamped on her big toes. Bull Ive heard Raditz talk while he was fighting Piccolo (lame voice beyond words) and Goku from the japanese version and it was a strong deep voice. All of a sudden i found myself respecting Raditz more and the japanese voices too until i heard Goku and Piccolo squeek/shriek/ talk again then i just switched off. Its interesting though that you mention Goku has a different personality in the japanese dub fem saiyan. Hard to picture him being more animal in the japanese version when he screams like a girl (its voiced by woman so thats why, who knows why though). |

I thought it was done by a guy and if it is I think the guy who does the japenese voice has ether had his balls removed or they never dropped. Mind you if you listen to the german version of barbie girl, barbie sounds like a guy, so it is just from where they come from. |

Like many have the stated, the Japanese voice is just plain annoying. I grew up watching the English version so I am more used to it so i say the English one.

OFF TOPIC- Im curious what does this mean/ refer to this comment about the racist thing? Ive heard it before and it came across like the person was accusing me of being a racist. I thought they where and responded questioning them on it and saying that i wasnt being racist. They responded wierd like they didnt understand what i meant as they didnt say anyone was being racist. I felt baffled as i felt they cleary had just called me a racist. Now i wonder if this comment wasnt meant to come across as a dig. ON TOPIC- i grew up with the english version (only seen brief clips in japanese, was enough for me) and although Gokus voice does vary (different actors) it never becomes as annoying and screechy as it does in the japanese one. I tried playing the one of the DBZ:BT games in japanese (the big wow in the games) and couldnt stand it, the voices just sounded alike didnt have a lot of character too them, often the voice didnt fit the face. I like Goku's English voice. Has a superhero-ish quality, which adds to the comparison with Superman. But it also has a sense of curiosity and childishness. The child Goku's voice is sometimes a little bleh, but it does sound like him as a child. |

I prefer Sean Schemmel's voice, he's one of my favorite dub VAs. I never liked his/Gohan/Goten's japanese voice. It's screechy and annoying (especially when the characters yell). |

Not only Goku's, but Vegeta's as well. There' both awful in Japanese. Goku's english voice is much more tolerable, much much much more. |

I don't prefer Goku's seiyuu, my first experience with her was the first Broly movie. The moment Goku opened his mouth I had to pause and rewind the scene several times just to make sure that it was Goku talking. As for the English voice, I love Sean Schemmel, but my favorite would have to be Ian Corlett from the first Ocean dub.
