We all have our personal favorite saga, although what I want to know is; what makes that saga your favorite!? It's easy to make a post and just say "Buu Saga" although that would be incomplete in this topic. Frieza Saga -For almost the entire saga you get both direct and indirect buildups that somebody will turn super saiyan. It kept me to the edge of my seat, waiting episode after episode when that would happen. -It gives a chance to more than just the Saiyans to have the spot light. It's also the first time we see Gohan actually fight. -The plot was unpredictably entertaining, such as when just out of nowhere the Ginyu force arrived or when Ginyu changed bodies! -The final battle was more intense than the final battles of the other sagas. Comparable only to the first saga's final battle, by the time the Cell saga's final battle came to be it was like Deja Vu. -The plot was more original than any other saga. |

I also choose the freeza saga, like you said it had one of the most original plots in the series. Krilin had his last moments to shine in that sage, Super Saiyan was introduced, plus it had a lot of backstory on what really happened to planet vegeta. Vegeta actually crying and beggin goku to defeat freeza while he was telling him about what really happened to their saiyan home was very epic to me. Freeza was pretty much a very likable villain. Also piccolo's origins and him reacting to finnaly being at home was great.

The Buu saga, though Androids/Cell and Frieza are close behind. I like the Buu saga because it had Vegeta Vs. Goku rematch, Buu was a good enemy, Super Saiyan 3, Gotenks, Gohan's final potential...it was just so action packed. The drawing was better by then, as well. I also thought the battle with Kid Buu was a great final battle for the series (excluding Goku Vs Uub). Edit: Oh yes, it also had Vegito, which was epic. Edited by Psyam, Jul 3 2009, 02:41 PM.

Frieza saga hands down. I started watching this saga first from the point when Vegeta clashes with Zarbon in their second encounter (i didnt know it was at the time though). The build up to this Super Saiyan legend, the music (Bruce Faulkoner stuff- magic), the battles, the drawings. Everyone gets a crack and there is loads of villians. The Ginyu Force and the awesome presence they had, seeing Vegeta genuinly freaked out at the very thought of having to face them. The Dragon God Porunga, the dreamer, this massive thing that had a sense of humour (how funny was it that he could speak english but would only accept wishes in Namekian- Friezas face is priceless when he cant make his wish). Goku when he arrives on Namek and mops the floor with the Ginyu members (Reacoom, Burter) after everyone else just gets creamed by them. Piccolo when he fuses with Nail and takes on Frieza, protecting Gohan and avenging the Namekians. Vegetas death at the hands of Frieza speaking to Goku pleading with him to avenge the race of the Saiyans. That bloody Spirit Bomb which seemed to take years to make - it is massive, bloody huge- finally it squashes the arrogant fool Frieza only for him to return a little winded and waste Piccolo and Krillin. How are they going to win now?! Finally we get to see all the fuss as Goku goes Super Saiyan, amid lighting and thunder and the music beating away, flashes of light. Awesome. Before Frieza well and truly gets his tail handed to him. |

I like both the Saiyan Saga and the Frieza Saga, the later sagas just can't compete with them in my opinion! I liked these Sagas, mostly as a Vegeta fan because a lot of his development followed and was contained within these sagas, first appearing as a heartless, merciless, ruthless and cruel Saiyan warrior, to be reduced to tears as he pleaded with Goku to kill Frieza, confessing his past to him, the deaths of his own father and Goku's, the destruction of their planet, and how Frieza basically ruined Vegeta's life! Chris Sabat did a fantastic job with that moment! I also liked the Saiyan Saga because it was relatively quick in comparison to the follow-up Sagas, not as much fillers, and also Piccolo becoming completely reformed, telling Gohan he's the one true friend he's ever had was heartbreaking. Also the deaths of Yamcha, Tien and Chiaotzu were heartwrenching moments as well, it's also great to see Krillin actually participating in battle, as he became rather useless by the time the Android Saga rolled around... and Yajirobe, can't stand him, but can't deny he's funny! I simply love Frieza, thought he was the best villain ever created, completely heartless, and he also didn't change like a lot of DBZ's villains. Even when Goku tried to help him, Frieza still wanted to kill him! He thoughtlessly murdered poor little Dende, and the remarks he made concerning Vegeta as he died prove how completely void of emotion this guy is "He's just a corpse and he's still babbling, i'll have to gag him to shut him up!"! Love his one liners too, like when he made a comment about Goku's shoes becoming untied, or attempted to fight Goku with no arms for fear of breaking his nails! Brilliant villian! |

I'm with Psyam. The Buu saga [although a bit predictable] had some of the biggest moments in DBZ history. Goku SSJ3, Fusion, Ultimate Gohan... It goes with Fusion but come on... Vegito!? Doesn't get much more epic than that with the exception of the renewed Goku and Vegeta battle. The artwork was superb especially when Goku created the spirit bomb. Go watch the Saiyan or Frieza sagas when Goku made a spirit bomb then go watch the Buu saga. And I like how it reiterated that Goku is the Earth's savior and whether he's around or not, he always will be there for the Earth when it needs him.

It's the Frieza saga for me. It was so entertaining and it was the one that I watched most of when I was younger, so it's very nostalgic watching some of it. I think that having only one character turn super saiyan was a good thing too, as in later series we see just about everyone get that ability. And the plot is so damn good. Plus, who could forget Vegeta's death? |
Probably worlds biggest Videl fan and one of the biggest GohanxVidel fans DBZ only fools. I've seen her in GT and it makes me want to be sick.![]() ![]() | |

I actually didn't like Frieza saga that much. It had some great moments but Freiza just creeped the hell out of me. I wasn't that old when I first saw it and Frieza was just awful, especailly the part where he licks the blood off his face. My favorite at the moment (it changes all the time) is Trunks saga. It's all of six episodes long but this mysterious kid pops up, turns super saiyan then kills Frieza in an instant! The music and pacing was just right and it was so refreshing after that god awful Garlic Jr Saga. King Kold was just hilarious and he deserved a better death IMO especailly because he's supposed to be stronger than Frieza. |

Out of the mini-sagas (thats how i class things like Namek, Ginyu, Trunks and Saiyaman stuff) the Trunks saga is very cool with all the mystery of this super strong youngster, his Super Saiyan ability, the ease that he crushed Frieza and the threat of the Androids. That awesome moment when Goku and Trunks have a small sparring session, like watching two masters as Trunks uses his sword and Goku just powers his index finger with golden fire. Every sword slash was wickedly fast and the way it clanged off Gokus finger as he parried the attacks was awesome. Good stuff. King Kolds death was dissapointing but i dont beleive it ever said he was stronger than Frieza, just that he was in roughly the same league. We dont know how strong he could have become though which was a shame, would have been cool so him transform. |
