Is there any particular reason religion is more popular in the south, as opposed to the east coast or west? Of the United States. does it affect anyones lives, if anyone on this forum lives in the bible belt. Does religion play an important role in your life even though your not from the bible belt.

I suppose I live in the Bible belt, being in GA and all. it's really just the bible belt because going to church has been sort of infused into the standards of living for the majority of youth here. parents are generally vary adamant about their kids going to church most sundays, and many of my friends of different denominations went to chruch frequently as a child. it's interesting to see, that many of my social aquantinces who were brought up with religion and latter left the faith, often find their way back to it. I think it's because of that a good majority of families will go to church here regularly, since a lot of those kids grow up into parents who's kids will repeat many of their behaviors.

unfortunately, I've noticed for some people, church is more of a family tradition, rather than a personal thing, which often means they are worshiping either blindly or they don't really want to be going to church, they just do because thats what they were told to do growing up.

I go because I have a testimony of the blessings from it, and I believe in god, but I also have responsibilities that give me an even stronger feeling of importance and self worth, so I find it utterly benificial to be going to church each sunday. religion is generally a topic anyone loves to share their two cents on in the Bible belt, so it's best not to bring it up to a stranger here unless your prepared for what could be a long winded conversation, but you can also get lucky and someone could share some thougtful insight that will brighten your day. ya never really know. anywho, thats my two cents on what it's like here for me.

It's a region thing. The closer you get to Mexico for instance, the more Catholics there are.
And yes, it affects my life daily. I can't go a single day without seeing a cross or someone talking about it, unless I stay at home all day. On some streets only two miles long, you will see about six churches. Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses consistently knock on our doors.

I want to sum up my thoughts by saying that a large majority of people in the south or less educated than in the north. Take what you want from that, but it makes quite a bit of sense if you see what I saw growing up.

I'm going to have to bring this topic back, since it was already an brief topic I don't want to start a new one just like it, as it may be just as brief.

Personally I am far from the bible belt. Although I find that in the big city, religion is still a big thing. Therefore I can only imagine how the southern states are affected by it (judging by Kotetsu's post as well). Despite everyone being entitled to their faith, what I don't like is when religious administraters try to hard to convert people, such as Jehovas. I get them almost every weekend. I either don't answer, or open the window and tell them to back off. Although I never went as far as what my father had once done at the door.

i've heard some similiar stories about Mormon missionaries. They usually lurk in the subways downtown, but once I saw them in my neighbourhood. They never bothered me, although a friend of mine has been approached several times by them.

since I was a full time mormon missionary, I'll tell ya how they normally work if your interested, but for the most part, they are absolutely different from Jehovas witness. if a mormon missionary were to ever do anything other than give you a quick spill on who they were, why they are there talking to you, and promising you things as results for trying out what they invite you to do, with their own testimony that what they are saying is true, than they may be new, I dunno. one thing about Mormon missionaries, is that all of them have a sincere desire to get to know you better, and to do everything in their ability to let you know they love you as if you are part of their family, so I would think talking to them would be an enjoyable experience, but I can see how if you weren't in the mood to get to know some strangers inviting you to find out if there is a god, they might seem more bothersome at the time than freindly. I would actually invite you to get to know the LDS missionaries in your area, they will be happy to do service for you, like free yard work, or help you move if you can't afford heavy lifters for your furniture, so long as you actually need the help and arn't just abusing them, and they are just really nice guys giving two years of their life to be away from family and freinds, without a job, in order to be there for everyone in the area.

I really haven't seen Jehova's witnesses in probably over 6 or 7 years come to my home. it's really kinda strange, I've expected some to come, but never see em. oh well.

This is not really a deep discussion topic. There's nothing to argue here. The questions have been answered, and not many people have actually answered it. Doubt many will. People avoid these topics like the plague.
