I've recently decided that I wanted to be some sort of fashion photographer. And I was wondering if any of you have any tips on getting started, tools I need, difficulties and etc. Any tips would be greatly appreciated

A camera! annnd a model to work with.... annd I assume you'd want to touch them up with photoshop. I'd be so much more help if I asked my Aunty or my Cousin because they're both doing things with photography and they know how to edit it all. I don't know anything much about it myself, you probably know tons but I'll try to help anyway so here goes... I assume that from the start, you'd be best off trying to learn your way around your camera if you don't already know, just to get the feel of it and understand what it can do when you're working. That's my first idea. My second idea comes from kinda, studying things to do with what you want to achieve, so if you're doing fashion, it might pay to look at a few magazines, look at what they do there and see if you can just try and be imaginative about how you could get similar results, cuz if you wanted a few photos with a specific look, you'd then know what you're working for as an end result. Thirdly, I suppose its still about getting to know the equipment, but if you've been making GFX using photoshop or similar programs, it could be a good idea to check out about what your software can do to enhance your photos and then practice and practice with the effects so that if you wanted to be really ambitious, it wouldn't be so stressful, because I assume that working on a photograph to make it really awesome must be kinda tiring. And my last point for now is something my Aunty had some trouble with when she was doing one of her City and Guilds tests. She was set a task with a theme, but she had a lot of trouble trying to figure out something to model and how she could make it stand out from a normal photograph. So if you're doing fashion, maybe it would be a good idea to see how you could combine the fashion styles you want to take pictures of, with a scene that compliments it, that makes it stick out from other pictures. But yeah, I don't really know what I'm on about and I don't know how good you are at this stuff already lol. I just hope what I said gives a bit of help. |

Thank you so much! You really provided me with a lot of information. I'm slightly worried though because A: The job I want focuses around cosplay modeling and I don't think they get paid alot. Or if it even exists as a career. and B: Isn't equipment expensive? If not, where can I find a cheap professional like camera to start off with? |

You know what, you might want to talk to Cerixed and Ange, I don't know if they're photographers, but they've dealt a lot with professional looking pictures. |
