My second predictions topic, but we are at the business end of the season :P Who do you think will be the two teams to accompany West Brom into the Championship? It's out of Middlesborough, Newcastle, Hull and Sunderland. I'm gonna go for Middlesborough and Hull. However I would love for Hull and Sunderland to go down as I really want Middlesborough and Newcastle to stay up, however that would be a very great escape on Middlesborough's part and a very unfortunate turn of events for Sunderland. |

It would have been more intresting if West Brom had won their previous game because then all three relegation spots would have been left to the last game, which I don't think has ever happend before, or not very often. Judging from the table this season, it's been very close. Personally, I think Middlesborough and Newcastle are pretty much doomed, lol. |

lol yeah I was rooting for West Brom to beat Liverpool even as a Liverpool fan so they could stay up :P All three relegation spots were open in the 03/04 season if I recall correctly which was a fun day. Well not for those that got relegated. And Middlesborough are pretty much doomed :P but I still have hope for Newcastle. |

West Brom go up and down every season. Middlesborough have just been dragging out relegation for years now, so really I think they should just go down and give some of the other teams a chance. It's just painful to watch them really. Newcastle however, I think will go down. They're having an increasingly bad time there but hopefully if they were relegated they could find their footing and get back into the premier league. Hull I think will somehow stay up, not sure why but I think they've done well enough to stay up if they can avoid relegation if West Brom, Newcastle and Middlesborough go down. Sunderland I don't think will go down, though I don't know why that is either. |

Yeah, they were 3rd at one point and flying high. Then they went on a winless run which started in November/December time I think. That's why I want them to get relegated, purely because it'd be funny considering how people thought they'd get UEFA Cup (well it's the Europa League now) football at one point :P |

West brom are definitely going down, I think hull and sunderland will accompany them. I have a feeling middlesbourough will stay up, I like them, mainly for southagate, he's one of the few honest managers, and has a rough ride. Hull were doing fantastic, they were playing great attacking football and they just collapsed, a real shame, but it's happened with other teams, the momentum of being promoted catapults them throught he first season, then in the second they fizzle out, same thing happened to hull, only a lot quicker. |

Remember this? ![]() That penalty cost us. Southgate is going down and there's nothing he can do about it! Also, West Brom are already officially down, they can't catch up no matter what happens. Hull don't really deserve to go down seeing as they've done a better job than Middlesborough have for a while. |

haha good point Viddy :P I still don't think the prem would be the same if Middlesborough went down, or Newcastle. I didn't really want Sunderland to go down either as I like Djibril Ciise, but I'd be willing to sacrifice them if Middlesborough and Newcastle stay up lol |

And look how it turned out, none of the teams fighting relegation won, so Sunderland and Hull stayed up. |

Yup. Newcastle didn't seem to have been playing with much urgency, they could have tried a lot harder than they did. Anywho next season should be interesting, just got the Play-Off Final to see how the leagues'll shape up next season. |

I think that Alan Shearer is the best chance Newcastle have of getting back into the premiership. The fans will give him a lot more patience than with any other manager they could get for what he previously did for the club, and he definately won't want to be remembered as th manager that ended up taking Newcastle down to the championship. He obviously cares a lot about his club and so he'll want to set them straight, and he might possibly be the best person to see where they're going wrong. And also, a lot of the older players or money-grabbing players may move on after being relegated, so he can rebuild the team rather than being handed down some poor quality players from the previous management. That is, if he decides to stay on as Newcastle Manager... :S |

I think he will stay on as Newcastle manager. This could be a good thing for Newcastle if they can bounce straight back next season, but that's harder said than done. Many clubs haven't been able to bounce straight back and some have even fallen down one division further (such as Charlton, Norwich, Southampton and Leeds). They'll keep their fanbase though which is a big plus and with the size of the stadium then ticket sales should soften the financial blow of relegation. The one problem is Mike Ashley. I think it'd be a great move for Newcastle as a club if he left, however it may be hard for him to find a buyer. Viddy what you said about the fans being more patient with Shearer is true, but if Mike Ashley becomes impatient yet again then that won't play a factor in Shearer either being sacked or walking away because of the tension in the boardroom. |

I think shearer may not be the best choice for manager, he's a legend to the fans, but he hasn't got much experience as a manager, now he's been thrust in at the deep end, with a club going down to the championship, with no prior experience, and he'll be expected to bring them back up to the premiership. |

Except for the fact playing in the Championship will give him a good grounding in what it takes to manage a team. He might not cut it yet as a premiership manager, but anything he can take from managing Newcastle in the championship could really help. Especially if he gets them promoted again. |
