I saw a pretty similar topic about older consoles, but not so much on current generation consoles. What is the most impressive/preferred console to you?

(I really thought the convenience of a poll would make things a lot better)

I went for the Xbox 360, but there all great in their own ways, I think last year was better for the 360, I think this year will probably be better for the PS3.

Gotta be the Xbox 360 for me, and that's coming from a PS1/PS2 fan. The PS3 just didn't live up to te standards set by the first two consoles and the Xbox 360 took complete advantage of that. It was also released 18 months earlier so has a much wider variety of games. It's also a lot cheaper but is equal or better in most categories (such as graphics, game selection, online play).

The Nintendo Wii for me is more of a group or family console, you couldn't really play it on your own. I'm also a big fan of story line games such as Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy and I can't see them working on the Wii. It's really fun once in a while when you're playing with friends or family at a gathering or something, but I couldn't play it constantly or alone like with the Xbox 360, or even the PS3.

Ps3 by far owns both the other consoles. The only thing the Wii has over the PS3 is the "variety" of games. Which isn't saying much considering they have 15 different versions of the same damn game. Also, "Hey look! We took this from Gamecube, changed like two things, and now we're going to charge you $30 to buy it again!". Complete genius when it comes to making money. From a gamers viewpoint.. no.

Why does the PS3 own the 360? Well, 360 gamers will always talk about h0ow much "cheaper" the 360 is. Sure, the Arcade system. $199, awesome price tag. Who wouldn't want a gaming beast for just this much. However, it's not exactly the beast yet now is it? No hard drive. Looks like we'll have to spend another $50-$100 or better yet, why not just get the Pro system that they conveniently sell just to get it all? $299, still a good price compared to the $399 PS3, right? Well, consider that the PS3 has 80GB of storage space compared to 60GB of the pro system. 20GB is not saying much these days, but that's just one point. The PS3 has FREE online gaming. The 360 has XBOX Live which costs roughly $50 a year. Taking to mind that experts predict the current generation of systems to last beyond 2013, 360 owners are looking at $200 dollars extra in online gaming at least in order to be compared next to a PS3. Looks like we're at $499 now for the Pro System. You can kind of see where I'm going now, but I'm not done just yet. Lets not forget that Blu-Rays beat out HD DVDs. Microsoft isn't going to want to miss out on that market. If they make an addon for current 360 owners, well, just add whatever amount that is to your 360 budget. Or, if they make a new console completely with blu-ray, then well good for them, however, not so much for those who already have a 360. Also, as far as graphics, they seem almost on par. Right now, that is. Which is funny because developers have only discovered about 40-50% of the PS3's processing power. For 360s they're at about 80-90%. Too lazy to grab an article, just google it.

Anyways that's all from me. Happy gaming. :D

I chose the 360. I have owned all 3 of these consoles, and I liked the 360 more. I found the ps3 to be the same as the 360 in every way(graphics, and everything else) but the 360 is cheaper, and has more games for it(360 only games). The wii was fun, however, I like to play shooter games more than anything, and on that system i did not like them. So out of all of them, I chose the 360.

Another thing is that because the PS3 took so long to be released, a lot of the 'PS3' exclusive games have now been transferred over to XBOX 360. An example being GTA, a game that before would have a Playstation release and then a year or so later would come out on other systems. Now it came out at the same time. Final Fantasy is another one. I'm sure many others will follow suit now as the XBOX is the more popular of the two and money is the main driving force behind these decisions.

Although everything you've said is right Hustla, overall the Xbox costs more to use it to it's full potential, but the xbox live system is the best of all 3, whereas I found the PS3 online dissapointing. Few people talked and it had very little of what the xbox live has. Downloadable content for games is 360 focused, with even games available on the ps3 having content only for the 360. So although the PS3 does have free online gaming, the online is crap, so it's no wonder it's free.

The real selling point for the 360 is exclusive games, there are so many great games available only the 360, PS3 does have a few exclusives but nothing like the 360, and the ones they should have had like final fantasy and tekken, have been made multiplatform as the games wouldn't have made a big enough return. This year though, the PS3 have had some great exclusive games coming out, which is why I think it may be a better year for the PS3.

I have both consoles due to a PS3 obsessed brother, and working my ***** of all throught he winter, and I'm happy with both, but I spend more time on the xbox live than the PS3. (Except metal gear solid, spent ages playing that)

Not everybody has the money to spend on a headset. ;)

Also, I've spent about as much time playing my friend Sam's Xbox360 as I have on my own PS3, and I can tell you that there is pretty much no difference in their online capability, except for the fact that when I've been at Sam's, we've sometimes not been able to play online because he hadn't paid for Live.

It also wouldn't make sense to be trying to use downloadable content as a selling point when the finished games are not yet using as high a capacity of the consoles processing power as HustLa said. So put simply, Sony have the common sense and decency to see how things go before trying to take your money. Also, the downloadable content feature as far as I remember, has only just started to build up a stock of stuff, and that's likely to be because the games available for the PS3 are far fewer than that of the Xbox360. People would much rather have new games, than having to put up with mere downloadable content for their old games, especially with the small amount of games already available. Also, Sony is likely to receive more money from newly released games than from downloadable content. For example, Call of Duty: World at War, would probably cost somewhere around £30, as a new release. The downloadable maps for Call of Duty: World at War, cost a mere £7. I think Sony would much rather have £30 rather than £7.

It is also disappointing that PS3 doesn't have as many exclusive games, but although some of the older games may be available for both consoles, it seems like people forget that there will be new games that may decide to be exclusive or not, that are just as great as some of the game titles that have already proven their worth. Playstation has a large base of fans, just like the Xbox series has, so it isn't like the company is going to disappear off the face of the earth due to lots of people using Xboxes or Nintendo Wiis. They also aren't in a bad position like Sega were with their Dreamcast project which was out for around 4 years and massively flopped, with their prices dropping to around £40, which is the same price as a current PS3 new released game. Sony still have the capability to sell their PS3's at a few hundred english pounds and with that being said, I think you can take for granted that game developers will still go there and sell hundreds of great releases, and hopefully some will be PS3 exclusive, if not then thats just good news for everybody.

I've always owned Playstations, and I also enjoy playing on Nintendo and Xbox products, so in actual fact, I think trying to compete about which is better is pretty stupid, though I still don't mind getting into discussions like this and proving things that Xbox fans don't bother to think about. :=]:

P.S. The amount of games a console has in relation to the time the console has been developed is not a good indicator of how good a console is. The actual game play of the console is the determiner. You could play 5 games on the Xbox, and only 1 on the PS3 and all 5 of those Xbox games may be *****ty compared to the one game played on the PS3, including the likely possibility that you had a chance to play the same game on both consoles. So the graphics and all that stuff is also important, not sheer length of time.

I think I'm done now.

I voted for 360, but I'm not going to go deep into why. I'm not trying to prove that 360 is better then the PS3.

Simply put, the 360 got there first. The 360 and PS3 are very similar, when you step back and take a look at them, with the 360 having a better selection of games, and the PS3 having the advantage of free online.

While both are equal in my eyes anyway, as I said, the 360 got there first. I bought that. Having a 360 now, and with the PS3's lack of exclusive games that i actually want, there is no point in me getting a PS3. It would be a waste of money. If the PS3 had been released first and got a head start on games, I would have a PS3 now, not a 360. But it didn't.

However, the Wii is owning at the moment. Nintendo have got non-gamer families as well as gamers buying their console, and as long as they keep making new LoZ/Mario/Smash Bros I'll keep buying every console they make. Simple as that.

Are you trying to argue against my point? Other than the online differences I agree with everything you've said mostly, are were you just voicing your views, as everything you've said I'd thought about.

About the headsets, that doesn't matter, most people on the 360 do have headsets, if you're shelling out a hundreds of pounds for a console then you probably do have the money for a headset. the onlines different, it got updated a while ago, i'm not sure if you've been on recently, 8 player party chat etc.
And the downloadable content isn't for sony, they might make not extra on the content, but it's fan service, some of it is a waste of money, but at least it's available to the people who download them.

"People would much rather have new games, than having to put up with mere downloadable content for their old games"
Here, you are very wrong, check the download sales for content for fallout and gta, it's very high, there is a massive demand for it.

And i'm neutral, all consoles have different capabilities and positives, but when people own one of them, they instantly think that there console is the superior, when they're basically the same which leads to petty fanboyism, at least people here are pretty open minded.

Ally to good. Nightmare to you.

I own all 3 and I went PS3. I'm not going to type up a million paragraphs trying to convince people why I think it's better.

It's a personal preference and the games that come out on PS3 are more my type of game to play. I don't really care for shooters with the exception of Gears. I like story driven games and games that make you think not only of plot but also making you use your mind to progress through the levels. Games like Metal Gear and Uncharted being a couple that I really enjoy.

Also having a PS3, I don't need a computer anymore as I can browse the internet on it with a USB mouse and keyboard.

The Wii is the most well managed and gross incoming console by far. It probably even has the current console war in the bag! Although my personal favorite is the PS3.

I chose Wii because i have been a Nintendo fanboy since the SNES days, plus not many like to admit it but the Wii does have some great games. Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Call of Duty: World at War because i like the wii remote for shooters, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl and the list goes on. The Wii doesn't have the best graphics but graphics aren't everything, as long as your having fun thats all that matters, some games have some great graphics though like Metroid and galaxy. The Wii is great for shooters nearly as good as a mouse but not quite. All Nintendo has to do now to make me happy is release a new Star Fox and F-Zero.
