I was watching Yo! Son Goku and friends return, or whatever its called, and i noticed on some of the message boards people were having a discussion about Broly. Being my favorite character and a big Dragon Ball fan i read some of the things they were saying. Apparently Broly can gather energy 300% faster than a regular saiyan? and i guess the longer he stays in his legendary form the stronger he gets? And how strong exactly is Broly? In my opinion he's about as strong as SSJ3 So whats the deal? and where are people getting this from?? and why exactly do people not consider the movies to be in the same cannon? |

There are a lot of baseless rumors floating around. Unless it's stated in the movies, a guide book, or an interview it's probably not true. I wouldn't know, I haven't seen the Brolly movies in years. I didn't really like them.
They were not written by Akira Toriyama(the animation company created them) so some fans, myself included, only consider the manga "canon." But this is sort of subjective. It's really up to the reader to decide what he or she considers part of the story. Edited by x_bura_x, Apr 16 2009, 03:32 AM.

I only consider the Manga Cannon, since alot of the Anime for DBZ is contradictory to it's predessecor (DB), but it may just be that Akira changed his mind about certain essential facts durring the series and applied them....... either way, Dragon Ball Cannon dosn't mean anything really, except "what was the goal Akira had in making this". If it's not made by Akira, it's not Cannon. even if it is made by Akira, it contridicts it'self anyway. theres really no point to cannon discussions with DBZ. to answer, most people make up stuff about Brolly, cause there is hardly any explanations for him in the movies. take everything you hear regarding "explanations of DBZ or DB" with a grain of salt. thats your answer for the most part. |

One big reason I don't consider the movies canon is that they don't fit in anywhere in the db timeline. It's sort of an alternate universe sort of deal. The OVA's could fit but the movies definitely don't. |

Your first fact is true. The longer he fights in his legendary form the higher his energy builds up, eventually to the point of overwhelming him. When he reaches this point, he must expell a great ammount of energy to prevent it from consuming him from the inside. However, I do not believe he is as strong as SSJ3. I think he is somewhere between USSJ and SSJ2. If he was a SSJ2, he would have quickly destroyed the Z-fighters utterly. Look at what Gohan did to the Cell Jr.s after becoming SSJ2. He destroyed each one with a single blow, and they were all stronger than any of the Z-fighters. |

False I'm afraid. Never said or proven anywhere, at least not to my knowledge. Whoever said that was making it up. To a certain extent, yes, but he does have a limit, and has to expel energy once he builds up too much. Well, a weakened SSJ1 adult Gohan was able to put up a brief fight against Broly in movie 10, so I'd say Broly is not quite at SSJ2 level. I'd say he's a little stronger then a Ultra Super Saiyan (like Trunks was against Cell), but unlike a USSJ he keeps his speed. To put it bluntly, fanboys. Broly has a lot of fans, and there are quite a few that overate him and make up facts that say how he's super strong and what not. Simply because they weren't created by Akira Toriyama, the creator of DBZ. Although, he did design some characters for filler and films, for example, Pikkon. Yeah, this is true. I'd like to point out to the OP that Broly expels his energy because he has a limit. He does not gain power infinitely. I just wanted to make that clear because I see a lot of people saying things like "Broly will become stronger then SSJ4 if he fights for long enough", which is absurd. |

Don't Read This.

Broly goes through a recovery stage and gains huge power in movie 10, making him roughly the equivalent of a Super Saiyan 2. He held back three Super Saiyans' Kamehameha's with a single ki blast, and a Kamehameha is 2.5x the power of the original user, since it only took one ki blast, and they barely began to push even THAT back, then, it's logical to assume Broly's power is about that of a Super Saiyan 2 in movie 10. |

Quite possibly, though to be honest I think the Kamehameha's multiplication of power became a non-factor, as it was never mentioned after the fight with Raditz, I believe. However, if Broly did get a Zenkai (and he should of) by being in a near death state for 7 years, then I don't have a problem with him being SSJ2 strength. I don't think his speed would be quite up to that standard, however. I think his "single ki blast" was quite strong, though. It must have been a highly concentrated blast, because while they barely pushed that back, they tore through his full power energy shield like nothing. |
