Okay, so has anyone watched this movie?

It's basically the story of California's first openly homosexual elected official, Harvey Milk, who was a San Francisco supervisor, and ended up being assassinated by fellow supervisor, Dan White. The movie focus on how he got there and all the campaigns and political/social moves he structuralized to get attention to his cause.

Can I just say: it MOVED me? It carries such a powerful message through... I was overwhelmed when the movie ended, it brought me to tears, might be because I am a sensitive and emotional person, but I'll assure you no one will stay indifferent to this movie.

First of all, Sean Penn (Harvey Milk in the movie) proved again how much of an incredible actor he is, he was beyond convincing in every scene, from Milk's losses to his final glories, going through his emotional life and his relationship with Scott Smith (played by James Franco, who not only pulled off surprisingly well an unfashionable moustache, but also looked damn fine the whole movie), and his passions in life, such as art (more specifically opera).

The movie was technically really good, although it didn't "wow"ed me because of the technical part, but because of its message towards equality, towards fighting against prejudice and social discrimination. I must confess I wasn't very aware of Harvey Milk's story, but after watching this movie and doing some extra research about him, I can only feel admiration for such a real life heroe, who has definitely helped a lot of homosexual people realizing their voices needed to be heard in a very cosed mind society, and who has made history by standing up for what he believed in, instead of hiding like minority groups have done for so long (too long).

I can only wish this movie is used as an educational tool in America and the rest of the world, I say display this movie in schools, make students debate its message, spread the story of Milk to as many people as you can, help continuing his mission, there's still a lot to do, let's get up and do it! If you haven't watched this movie, start off by watching it.

I am very positive you'll get where my emotion is coming from if you do it.

Thank you, Harvey! Thank you.

Heeeey...this isn't my house! >_<

I can tell, just by reading this, that the movie moved you deeply Kris. That's good, because more and more movies these days are out purely to wow the audience with explosions, guns and sword fights (not that I'm complaining ;) ) But then they forget to try and connect with the audience on a personal level, like this film has done for you :)

I finally saw this movie last night. Very powerful story. Sean Penn played Harvey Milk SOOOO well. It was definitely a sad, unfortunate ending to the story. I was teary-eyed by the end.

This film has made me slightly more out spoken about things I feel strongly about. Homosexuality being one of them, atheism as another.
It's not very often I'm enticed to do something more with my thoughts after watching something inspirational. In fact I'm not the protesting type.

I blame Strawberry. :innocent:
