Just thinking about Trunks/Cell and the whole Time Travel thing. Trunks' time line - Android 17 & 18 running riot, Goku's dead. He comes back to warn everyone, which somehow causes the events to change, more androids, and 17 and 18 are stronger. Now this may be a little tricky to put into words, but here goes. In Cell's Time, 17 & 18 have already been defeated by Trunks, so Cell is forced to kill Trunks and steal the time machine. Now, when Trunks goes back to the future, he defeats the androids and then Cell. Preventing him going back in time again. So, for Trunks time, when he goes back in time, the Androids are still alive. In Cells time they are not. They both end up going back to the same point. So is there three time lines as apposed to just Trunks' and the one where Goku survives? There are three Cell's aswell. The one who Trunks beats, the one who Gohan beats, and the one in the lab that Krillin and Trunks destroy. |

Yes, there is three time lines. This is probably because the Cell that kills trunks and goes back in time (the one Gohan destroys) comes from further in the future then the trunks that comes back in time to warn the Z fighters. In the third time line, Cell emerges from the lab to find a destroyed world, and after chasing the androids trail finds that Trunks has deactivated and destroyed them. He kills Trunks and takes his time machine to the present. The Trunks from the second time line (the one we know) is a little earlier in the future from what I gather, so he hasn't deactivated the androids yet. He comes back from his trip in the past and kills the androids. Later, the Cell of this time line again follows the androids trail, finding they have been destroyed, but this time he himself is also killed by Trunks. I don't think it's specifically said that the third time line is even later in the future, but this is the conclusion I've come to. The third time line could just be one in which Trunks persuaded Bulma to work on a deactivation control for the androids instead of a time machine. Thus how he destroys them but gets killed by Cell. But yes, there is at least three time lines. |

I think it's stated, if not, it's made to be pretty obvious. |

With every possibillity there will be an allternat universe where the opposite happens, so in anoughter time line bardock might not be dead or freeza never destoyed planet vegetta. The differences can be small enough that they will never be noticed or they can be great that it people will never excist. |
