Problem with my Computer

So, right now I'm using my brother's computer but this happened just today. So here's what happened.

My photoshop closed suddenly so i tried opening up again. No other programs was on besides Photoshop. It gave me a blue screen which was wierd because my computer wasn't using too much memory. So I turned my system off and then back on.

Now it won't boot up correctly. It gives me instead this saying:

Windows/System32/Config/System is corrupted or missing.

So i did like it said trying to repair it by putting in my Service pack 2 Windows XP disk. Problem is, it won't be able to do the repair because the system is stuck at booting!!!!

If me and my dad isn't able to repair my computer, then we might have to take it to the repair shop. I also know that, a lot of my files will be lost and backup is useless right now.

:'( :'(

Well, I imagin a repair shop will create a new partition and back things up if that's possible.

Are you booting up from the CD to use the repair function though? Make sure you change your BIOS order or press del I think it is to select boot. I can't remember what it is off hand.

Okay my sister had this problem a while back. You got 2 choices. Go to a shop like PC World, ask them to recover your system. You can do it yourself by doing a System Recovery walkthrough. There might be another way, but we went to a shop to do it.

Most likely, I'll be taking it to the repair shop and I have a feeling that a lot of files are going to be deleted during the process. They probably will figure out a way to reinstall the OS or hopefully just fix it without breaking any of my important files.

Until then, I'll be using my brothers computer which also means less time on forums now.

Also, no photoshop for a while :(

That's not good. Your hard drive is probably going out. (worse case scenario) or your file system is just corrupt and needs a windows disk fix.

Google; chkdsk /r which is the windows recovery method. There should be some steps on how to use it.
If you're living in Dallas, and I'm in San Marcos, talk to me more if your interested in me sending you some repair disks and we can go over this through email to help you fix it cheaper than repair shop costs. It's up to you really.

I would definately recommend taking it to a shop if you are not familiar with system recoverys. When my sister had the same problem, I was an idiot and decided to recover it myself. I thought I had done everything right, but I hadn't, I had just deleted all files and programs on there. In the end I got somebody to recover the files back off my harddrive onto my computer.

So yeah, if your not got knowledge of system recoverys, I wouldn't do it;)

Oh boy, my worst nightmare just happened.

The repair shop told me that the hard drive was crashed...They put in a new hard drive and we're about to go to give them my original Windows XP media center edition 2005 disk to reinstall it.

They tried doing a backup before and couldn't be backed up. :( Too late I guess.

I'm not worried about the programs b/c I know I'll have to reinstall them anyways but more about the important files I have as well as my dad's.

Regular backups are very important. I spent 150$ on a 500gb external i use every few months to back up my stuff. Very very critical.

Well, that's what I'm going to start doing every month now. We have an external hard drive but I guess I never think about backing up. Luckily, my pictures are backed up on CD at least.
