Would DBZ be enjoyable if Goku didn't have his funny/clown personality. Do you think that many people would have still watched DBZ if Goku had mostly a serious personality all the time?

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I do think it would still have been enjoyable, it just would have been different. I like the light humour that is input by Goku, Krillin and other characters, but they can also be serious when it matters. When Goku went SSJ after Krillin was killed, there wasn't any funny/clown personality to talk of and it was still enjoyable. When Gohan in his SSJ2 form destroyed Cell, and Goku died there wasn't any funny or clowny bits.

Without the light-hearted characters and personalities the show wouldn't be the same, but it would still be enjoyable.

It took the darker turn when it needed to. That's all I'll say.

I think it would still be enjoyable, yes. But I think it would have a negative effect on the show...there was too many badass serious characters (Vegeta, Piccolo, most of the villains). Also, Goku being a "clown" was good for the Goku/Vegeta relationship imo. Two super serious rivals staring each other down would of got boring.

Yes it would, because there would still be a massive array of character personalities and appearances.

I would have liked DragonballZ a little more if Goku wasn't an idiot to be honest. I thought he often ruined episodes. Though it was okay in the original Dragonball.

I think he had the right amount of seriousness in Dragonball Z in times that he needed to be. He kept the show entertaining and humorous.

if goku was all serious it wouldnt be half as popular i think.. db was supposed to be funny, thre were people watchng the show bc of gokus personality.. so i think it would be bad for dbz if goku wasnt so bubbly

Goku's personality has never really appealed to me in the first place so it wouldn't really change my opinion of the series. His "comical personality" has always always felt a little too repetitive, predictable, and even slightly forced to me.

I found the supporting characters funnier (Kuririn, Gotenks, Pilaf, Lunch, Bulma, etc).

I may have actually liked him better, had he experienced a few "serious moments." I wouldn't want him to change completely, but a realistic trait once in a while(fear, doubt, etc) would have made him a more interesting protagonist in my opinion.
