I once gave a Kangaroo a heart-attack just by staring at it

I've been thinking, about a lot of things, but mainly time. And I thought to myself:

"At what point does now become then?"
and
"if it's today here, but it's yesterday there, what time is it?"

Do you ever have thoughts like this? I know that it's like... Now... Everywhere. But when you read this my now won't be the same as your now. Get it?

I love how intrikit and complex the universe is, and hopefully one day we'll have the answer

Now becomes then once it has been, say I'm typing now, once I have finished, that action is then in the past, so I was typing. The transition could be defined by an action being carried out then compleated or by the time simplying passing, so only the now is now but what has been is then.

Doesn't seem like a hard concept to think about, you only move forward in time so where you have been is then.

The yesterday and today thing could probably be a simler concept, yesterday is a word allocated to time that has passed already, today is something that is happening now, in the present day. Tommorow you don't know but you can guess there will be time allocated there.

There isn't much about time that I find confusing, it's like a long road, you're going forwards but don't have reverse. The only question that poses problems is the question about time travel. Though you could argue having what ifs was a quesion for time but I think that's more a question to the infinate posibilities which time is allocated to.

I think you kind of mis-interpreted what I was asking,

I meant, that how long does it take Now to become Then.

Theoretically, the universe could have only been created 5 minutes ago. To me, currently, there is only my desk. Although I know that outside my desk is my room, then my hall, then my house, then my street, town, country, continent, world, then infinity.

But was the me, when I finish typing this, the me that reads it over. Any different to the me that began typing? I think so. In some minute way, I have become a different person. And I think this all relates to time.

Time doesn't wait. I think that time exists both as part of the imagination - to cope with the vast amount of Space in the Universe - and as part, or maybe even a majority, of the Universes natural order.

When I sit down, between then and standing again, I do not even know if I am the same person, maybe I have been destroyed, along with the rest of existence, and then re-created again. All in the time it takes to go from now to then. Perhaps that, although I retain the same memories and ideals, I am not the same Mike? Maybe I am different?

Maybe when you've finished reading this post, you'll change in a small way. Or will it be you changing? Or is it the universes clone of you changing?

I know what I mean, but it's hard to write down. So sorry if that was confusing

Hmm...I didn't realise this was in the deep discussion and feel like a bit of a dork now, let's see if I can redeem myself.
Time is a concept I try not to think about too much because when I think of the past it has a tendency to sadden me, I always associate it with fond memories that will only ever exist as memories. And I know there's a possible lifetime in which to create new memories, but sometimes a person can't help but be wistful.
I think the only time I think of time passing as a positive thing is when I'm dreading something, be it an exam or something, and althought scared I just have to reassure myself "No matter how you do, tonight is still going to come...". It's strange to think that tomorrow doesn't exist, yet.
I think what i'm trying to say is that I see time as a very subjective matter, it's all about who you are and what you spend it doing.

Time is a simple linear, man made idea that allows us to place the earth's rotation at certain intervals of life. At one point in human history, seconds were not real. It was the rising and the setting of the sun that caused life to flourish and move.

The fact that you can remember, "then" is all you need to understand. People who can't remember the past at all even right after they do it, don't know that a past exists.
And as for the future? Experience can give us a guess as to the outcome. Like if I throw a knife at the wall, I know from experience that it might damage it some how. We do not know the future until it becomes present, and then we remember the event as past.

I think you kind of mis-interpreted what I was asking,

I meant, that how long does it take Now to become Then.
Now becomes then once the action has passed, that action uses time, time doesn't have a set mesurement, only the ones people gave it. The ammount of time it takes is down to how long the action lasts for or just each passing moment. So no, I don't believe I did mis-interpret.

Now you're using human mesurement, you would have noticed if the universe was created '5 minutes' ago, I think it would have been pretty obvious because you would surely have had memories from 'years' ago. Unless you believe that those memories suddenly just appeared in your mind for no reason.

As for the area which you think you know, that doesn't seem to show much relevence to the subject of time to me.

No, you are the same person, no matter how many diffrent possibilities there are for one given action, you will still be the same person in all of those possibilities, unless your physical body or thinking pattern changed dramatically after you typed, you would still be the same person.

You don't change into someone else just because time passes, time has no bering on what you are in your actions, time is just the medium that allows them to happen.

Time doesn't wait. I think that time exists both as part of the imagination - to cope with the vast amount of Space in the Universe - and as part, or maybe even a majority, of the Universes natural order.

This isn't a matter of time, time is a concept for actions happening, time isn't the way in which things are created however time allows things to be created. There is a diffrence, another poing is, if you had been destroyed then your memories would be affected by it, especilly if you became a diffrent person, so this isn't very likly to happen.

You would only be diffrent if you changed, but the reconstruction of a person wouldn't be time. A wall ages because of time but time wasn't the medium that built it in the first place, people where, people might also knock it down then rebuild it.

That's not to say someone built humans, no, but another process did, thinking logically, why would you destory something then rebuild it at every given action? I don't take my bed apart every morning then build it back again at night, it's a waste of energy.

I will change in the sense that I have gained something in my memory of what happened, I will remember parts of the post as I reply but that doesn't make me a diffrent person. As for one of my other possibiles, they might not have even replied to this, they are still me though, just a diffrent outcome of.

So in conclusion, now becomes then when the moment/action has passed, now can't become then if it never happend and then can't become now because we can't travel back.

But lets say then did become now, anything that happend at the previous point would no longer have happend if you changed something, so the future would not lead to the previous now. If you did go back to the previous present and didn't change anything, then you would be forever looping, going back in time to the then.

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

I love thinking about these things when my mind just wanders through different subjects and pulls them apart.

Time, like Kotetsu (it's easier seen then , :P) said, is a man-made idea and just a label that Humans have given for something to make it easier to organise your day. As for the past, present and future I find it simple. The present is constantly becoming the past. Or as you put it, now is constantly becoming then. For example, everything I have just typed and everything I will type will be in the past for me. The future never happens because nobody knows what the future holds. The future is just a blank space in fron of us where anything can happen, it is when it becomes the present that it happens and then it is no longer the future.

As for the "am I the same person after I have done even the smallest thing?", there are endless possibilities. I mean I've just taken a breath, but it didn't change anything in the course of history nor in the course of my life (except that I am still alive). However, there are other more extreme examples you could give. Say you're walking through your town and just as you get to a shop you think "hey I'll go in and check out some clothes, games or anything". You could have not gone in, but you did and won a prize of £5,000. That has changed you as you are know £5,000 richer which you wouldn't have been if you had't gone in. When you think abut it, literally nything can happen in the future as a result of what you have done, and mos of the time you aren't changed as a person but there are occasions when you will be.

Sorry if that last paragraph didnt make sense, like Mike said it's hard to explain what you're thinking :P
