Pick which one is better suited. A better graphics card or more memory would be better. As for mobilty, a case for the laptop isn't expensive. |

Do you have system specs for the laptops? The mac book air lacks some features normally found on laptops so i'm already thinking the other laptop would be better. |

Take it from a guy, (me) who has a degree using AutoCAD. You want the vaio. As a matter of fact, you don't want either Sony or Apple. You will get your money's worth buying a toshiba. All Laptops 1200$+ will get you exactly what you need spec wise to run autocad smoothly. I used to run cad on an old P4 1gb ram. It worked great, so anything better that with duo processors and so on would just be supreme. Now if you were going to do Photoshop stuff I'd say get a Mac. And I would never, EVER recommend that anyone ever buy a sony laptop. I Repair sony laptops for 3 years, and let me tell you they are some of the worst products I've ever seen. Want to get your hard drive out and replace it with a new one? Usually good luck. They tend to bury them under several things just to make the laptop smaller. So in conclusion, if your willing to blow money on expensive hardware: Mac: Photoshop Sony: Never Toshiba: great piece of hardware AutoCAD will run well on all of these. Oh wow really your a AutoCad master thats great. Well I plan to use photoshop and AutoCad do you have any laptops you suggest. Also i like my laptops slim i hate bulkly laptops. Well for the most part money isnt a issue but im not going to play over 2000 for a laptop really the perfect price range for me is 1000-1500. Also what would you think about Aleinware but im only buy the cheap alienware because even the cheap aleinware are alot of money. lol

Try to avoid Alienware unless you're serious about games. No one I know buys a cheap Alienware for normal use. They tend to make large laptops anyways. If your looking to do both photoshop and Cad I suggest getting a mac. Though i've never used cad on a mac before. And I wouldn't know if it worked or not. That should be a question to ask before buying a mac. Otherwise I recommend a Toshiba. I've repaired less Toshiba laptops then any other computer, and over all they tend to have a lot of good specs for the money. It really depends. I suggest narrowing your search down to three models of three different brands, and then posting them here for analysis. |

Well here's the general decision maker. Straight from Autodesk discussion board. http://discussion.autodesk.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=486541 From what it says, CAD doesn't support mac drivers, however you can do a dual boot of Mac OSX and Windows and switch between the two, but that would involve more money and time to figure out. That Toshiba you picked out is a great pick. The 4gb ddr 6400 is what makes it quite nice. And for the price it's pretty much a steal. With the extra money you were going to spend on the mac, i'd suggest getting Best Buy's http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=cat13508&type=page&pspPrdId=1218013473292&pspSkuId=8960127&cItemId=cid&ppId=1218011394877&pSkuId=9036009&pageType=PDPPage&h=387 Service plan/ w accidental coverage. While nothing may happen to the computer during the 2-3 years you have it, it covers 1 new battery, which is 100-200$ itself. I used my service plan before the time was up to get myself a new battery, now I have 2. The old one doesn't hold a charge as long as before. If not, maybe invest in a backup device. I personally use the Toshiba A105-S4014 which I upgraded the Ram to 2Gb. I run Photoshop CS3 perfectly, and have yet to download ACAD on here. But I'm certain it would be fine. But the final decision is really up to you, I just offer guidance as to which computer would fit your needs the best, and it looks like you found it. Edited by Kotetsu, Nov 10 2008, 02:41 AM.

I haven't gotten the chance to look at 09' yet. It probably has better 3D features than 2007 did when it came out. |
